What kind of 5 Hp motor? Does it have 5 Hp on name plate? Peak Hp? On my Kawasaki KZ-550 I used a GE 3 HP motor and four 29 series deep discharge batteries for 30 mile range. It was a series wound motor with Alltrax controller and before that a Curtis 1205 controller. Both had same range. What voltage is motor in order to determine current needed for battery pack. Some surplus motors are in the order of hundreds of volts. Some again are golf cart 24 to 36 volts. My Kaw used a 36 volt motor but I used 48 volt pack.
