more info needed,

what type of controller are you after? series? PM? BLDC?
how many amps peak?
how many amps cont?

im a big fan of the kellys, but it really depends on what you need.

my base is a series wound a1,a2,s1 and s2 posts stock 36 volt motor in a golf cart . how do the kellys work ?
I have read some bad stuff about them but it seems to be alot of install error, and that killed them .
what model do you run? I was looking at the kd72500.

ah k,

the ones that died (at least lately) are mostly where people have installed them wrong, didnt use the isolated variant, or spec'd a lower power controller than necessary.

i have one of their BLDC controllers, a 72v 400A unit.

with series wound, you aren't going to get regen. at least not reliabley.
since you are using such a low power motor, you could get a similar sep-ex motor which will do regen reliably.

the curtis hardware is analogue, so it has a bit of a jerk on start up.
i really don't like their design.

the kellys run *alot* smoother, however, the continuous to peak ratio is much larger.
so for reliability, you need to spec a electrically much larger kelly than a curtis.
the physical size of the two controllers will work out around the same.

in general, just buy the biggest controller you can afford.
the kellys are programmable, so you can always back off a bigger one.

i know less about altrax, though i do hear they are programmable. anyone else out there who can give some insight?

what is isolated variant?what are the other common mistakes people make?

isolated means the controller case has no electric potential to any other part of the wiring.
means if a wire gets grounded at some point, your controller doesn't get toasty.

if you dont have a grounded frame this would be the same thing?
any other things i should watch out for?
