Prius NiMH cells for Vectrix Replacement Packs?

Mik's picture

I am evaluating Prius NHW10 batteries.

I have four complete batteries, with 40 "sticks" each. Don't know yet how many cells are salvageable, and how much of their original 6.5Ah capacity they still have.

There is a nice BMS in there, it does not look like the Toyota engineers were told to cut corners....

Putting together a 3p(17x6)s battery would give a capacity of 19.5Ah. That would be better than what I have now, giving me about 40km range.
3p of these cells can produce over 300A I am told, easily covering the 218A peak that the Vectux seems to be using.
It will easily fit into the battery compartment, leaving about 1/3 empty for a decent BMS, or just space to replace the main fuse without major fuss.

If there are not too many dodgy cells in there, then I can make several Vectux packs out of them.

I do not expect to use the Toyota BMS in the Vectux. It's for a 240s NiMH battery system. But I'd love to understand how it works!

Just checking to see if you have made any progress on using the Prius Battery Packs.

Yes, but not for use in the Vectrix. Much better to use it to get the MK1 Prii going again!
