Hey Guys,

First, let me explain the silence to date. I just found out about this minutes ago when I went to the site. I am in the shop working and have intentionally been staying offline so as to be more productive in the shop. My email boxes are slammed as always.

My digd.com email is working, but I have a HUGE backlog there and so my response time on that box is very slow.

We have voltage forum backups. I'll see what I can do to restore a previous version of the site in as little time as possible. I'll have to dig through the servers to do so. Right now, the database is trashed. I cannot even log into either the forum nor the admin areas. I created this account to put a message up.

I have not read much about the actions taken in my absence. I will do so shortly. I will also give several people the "keys to the store" so to speak so that this doesn't happen again.

So please spread the word that reconstruction is taking place and I'll work to get it back online asap.

Great. This will save a ton

Great. This will save a ton of work trying to repost the old posts in this forum's format. I assume there's been an update to the invision board that'll patch the security holes at least for a while. The only problem I see is going back to worrying about Chasb censoring me again :-)

And if we stay here, or if Ken wishes to move his invision board here, it's all good. But it sounds like another touchy-tough decision is on our horizon.

What now?!

OK, I presume that means, the .com site may well continue after all. Anyone going to offer a bit of direction as to what happens next? I'm assuming that Ken has no idea of this .org forum at the moment.

Glad to hear you're back.

Glad to hear you're back. Any chance you can ask the hosting company, provider or dns admin to take the old forum down?

Let's bury the hatchet xyster

If this board survives and you stay onboard as a moderator, you're undoubtedly going to learn over time that you just have to use your own judgement and call things as you see them. This is absolutely going to lead to disagreements, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone were to accuse you of 'censoring' them along the way too. It's almost inevitable. Our disagreement was basically a situation where each of us thought they were right. I have nothing against you personally, and can certainly leave that matter behind as an agreement to disagree.

What do you say that we take this opportunity to bury the hatchet and start out fresh regardless of what happens?

That's what I wanted to

That's what I wanted to hear. Yes, I'll probably be accused of that too if a moderator, but it won't be for censoring what was/is essentially pointed satire and social commentary. At least it'll be for censoring something that has the potential to turn into a big problem, like spam. Reid-o's right too -- people here get too serious sometimes.

Good To Hear

Thats Good News

This little forum is cool as well though, top job fellas to do this in such a short space of time!! It sounds like Ken is serious to take himself away from the busy schedule to get the board patched up and back on line, that will be good news indeed.

Its great knowing we have an alternative forum as well this is a cool sidekick to v is for virus no matter what happens.

Nice to see Ken is back, for a moment i worried he had puffed back on 1 too many large cubans or tripped over his sandals and bashed his head, great news Ken is the man!! I am sure he can get his voltage ship floating again and just in time for more very high power videos from me he he

Cheers

Is 'Ken' really back?

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but don't you think it's a bit odd that we'd hear about Ken being 'back' from this georgejjonesjr character? Why wouldn't Ken just post under his normal ktrough username? Who is this georgejjonesjr character anyway? Anyone could have made up the 'message' from Ken, and I also suspect that this georgejjonesjr character could be the one who hacked into the Voltage forum to begin with.

Have any of you received actual emails from Ken? I'm starting to have my doubts about this 'breaking news', and would advise that the link this guy's providing on all the message boards to the V-is-for-voltage lost files (or whatever) only be followed with extreme caution. In fact, I don't plan on following links from this guy until I have more positive proof that Ken is actually back...

From reading the vrefuge

From reading the vrefuge site, it appears georgejjonesjr is gman -- they both sign with "g". Gman says that Ken left him in charge of security at the V -- he posted his "two week notice" at this forum in the "site looking good" post:
http://visforvoltage.org/forum-topic/38-site-looking-good

"So this is my 2 week notice I will not be or wish to be the security person or have any responsibility at all.
I wish you all the best of luck, your doing a great job.
G"

I saw no statement from Ken at the vrefuge site that hadn't been "relayed" by georgejjonesjr. Gman also accused me of being the hacker, and I believe he accused David too. Gman told us all he bought the visforvoltage.org domain name, but whois and betterwhois show no such registration -- though they properly show the .org domain registered to David.

http://www.betterwhois.com

I checked betterwhois again, and it does refer to "St. Louis E Ride" down at the bottom as the registrant for visforvoltage.org. I think that's gman...

Well...

And at the bottom of the betterwhois listing it says to check this URL with GoDaddy: http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?Domain=visforvoltage.org

If you follow that URL you will see George Jones, of St. Louis E Ride.

On Sunday, last weekend, when I wanted to register VV.net, and I found it had already been registered ... you may remember I posted on VV.com wondering what was going on. I use http://register.com for my whois lookups, and their whois sure showed more information than this supposed "Better Whois" that you're using, because it showed George's name, address, phone number, etc, so I called him on the phone and we talked for awhile. I don't think (now) that George was accusing me of anything, if anything he was being vague in what he was saying for reasons of his own and it wasn't clear and I seem to have misconstrued it.

As for Ken -- I got an email from him earlier today and he suggested we talk. I tried calling him this evening, but got his voice mail, left a phone number, and didn't get a call from him. I'll try again tomorrow. Ken's email said pretty much the same that George (gman) relayed to the group. It does remain to be seen that events will come about that the VV.com site will be restored etc. I will do my best to help that to occur.

being vague in what he was saying

David,
I just found this by accident. Thank you for making the post.
My vagueness had more to do with my attempt to honor Ken's wishes, and still try to get the information out there. I gave Ken your email address, and he latter said he had sent you a email.
I admire your objectiveness, and what I perceive as a very fair, understanding rational person.
As I've said before, I made some mistakes, due to my self-inflicted stress, lack of sleep and my keyboard's retract key not working only the send key seems to work and has no delay.
I also probably got too involved, and irritated some people. I was raised during a time when we were taught what's known as the Jackie Robinson approach, always give more than 100%.

Peace Out,
Gman

Gman says that Ken left him in charge of security at the V

xyster,
I just saw your post. I know I replied to it before, but now it seems to be gone like so many of my post.
You were well aware Reid asked me to be the virus person, you were there and he has confirmed it on this site.
I also have a email from you dated Saturday, November 18, 2006 11:49 AM the subject is Hey Gman...
So I'm not clear I understand your statement, I also have copies of all your post on V where we discussed you doing the administration two tier thing if you what me to also post them. All this was done before the date of your post.

Peace Out,
Gman

Please stop by the V Refuge for the latest news about the V is for Voltage Recovery effort and status.
