Suggestions for new batteries for E-MAX?

Hey all,

Well, I'm approaching 3500 miles or kilometers on my E-Max Sport, and the batteries are just about finished with me. I get just about exactly 15 miles to a charge -which is just about exactly enough to get me to and from work, but not much else. I've looked over PJD's and others descriptions of re-wiring batteries, but which brand and how many would you all reccommend?

Thanks, and happy e-motoring

SMAC,

I believe you answer can be found here in the post "Battery Pack Performance". PJD has done a lot of testing you may be interested in, you may also want to read the complete thread.

Hope this helps,

digikey http://www.digikey.com looks like the best source for the EVP20-12s now.

BB now makes the "EB20-12" which seems to have identical specs as the EVP20-12. I got them special ordered from a local "batteries plus" store. With only about eight break-in cycles so far, I seem to be getting comparable performance to the silicone pack when it was new.

Have some Evercell 24 volt 30A/H batteries pack that have never been used ,OEM price was $ 395.00 , will let them go for $ 295 for one or
$550.00 for a 48 volts twin pack .That is almost 1500 W/H of energy at about 34 Kg , a similar lead acid packs will weight about double .
Any question I can be reached at (203)627-8426 Andre

The e-max squeezes it's batteries in four separate little boxes, the Evercell batteries won't fit in an e-max. And, 1500 watt hours would be less than the stock pack capacity.

Re: Suggestions for new batteries for E-MAX?

Hello Paul , appreciate your comments , I am not familiar with the E-Max scooter and area assigned for the battery , could you tell me what is the stock power pack capable to deliver ( watt/hours and at what load current ) have a Lepton-E , been getting anywhere from 30 to 40 miles on a full charge , the person driving it will pretty much determine its range and top speed .
The Nickel-Zinc batteries have a fairly low impedance (less than 50 milliohms @48 Volt pack) could you tell me what did you measure on the stock E-Max power pack , also on the lead acid you got from Digikey .
Would like to complement you on your batteries data presentation , found very informative , how many scooters do you have ? and what kind of mileage do you put on them each week ?.
Regards
Andre

Re: Suggestions for new batteries for E-MAX?

Paul, are you using the standard e-max charging port and charger for the EB20-12s? I'm placing an order for them today, and I figured I should order anything else I need at the same time.

Thanks for all your help--(I just downloaded your wiring diagram for the buddy-pairs, etc...)

Re: Suggestions for new batteries for E-MAX?

Yes, the B&B batteries are charged exactly as you did the silicones. The only change is that you should not charge them in with both chargers. The recommended maximum charge current is 6 amps, while both chargers together could be producing as much as 10 amps per battery.

I'd strongly recommend powercheqs or other battery equalizers with the new pack.
