Chas,
Yeah a logo, I just got busted when I was playing around. They are so nice. I couldn't get my favorite #5 to work.
I didn't know you were peeking. LOL
How did you get a new poll started, and I couldn't? Can you make it a one week poll, that way we'll have it for our one month university launch Tuesday 12/18/2006. Can visforvoltage.org be added to our final selection, maybe somewhere in the bottom? The .net will distinguish us from the .com which is very important.
Never knew all this talent was right next door to me.
Now the legal stuff. I suggest you do one of those permission things or what ever they are called, containing without your permission. Then you can give our interim administrator David Herron permission to use it on visforvoltage.org. David can probably help with what he needs.
I also think one will be nice on our domain email stationary. and as a avatar on other EV boards that allow them. That's all down the road. What a wonderful way to promote our site with the logo linked to the site. It looks so nice you just have to click it. It's also a potential funding strategy to help sustain us.
Wizard with the ZAP Xebra Truck knows how to do that, and the target of my next email.
Great work and initiative on your part, you get a Initiative Award for stepping up to the plate.

Logos

Recently David told me the intended size of the logo and where it should be placed.
Size: height approximately 80 pixles and less than 300 pixles wide.
The logo is placed in the upper left part of the page where for now is just
typed "V is for Voltage Forums".
For a preview how it could look I created a printscreen of each of them.
(click on the logos to see the full printscreen)
1.

2.

3.

4.

please post your comments or tell me what could be done better.
(changing colors, different font etc)
I particularly like 2. which was posted by Fechter (hope it was ok to use that image you posted)
1. is nice as well, but as I said, please post your comments or reviews.
Unfortunately the heigh of the logos in the "logo poll" don't fit a suitable size and therefore I wasn't
able to create a printscreen of them.
The owner should resize them to show the V users how it would look.

Cheers Max

Nice Presentation

Max,
Very good.
The one used on the site won't need the url, but the promotional ones will, can you show us how that would look?

Max,
Your good, never thought of something like that. I Like.
No I was talking about the logo for the web page, being used on coffee cup, T shirts ect, that we could sell. So each of the logo's you submitted how would the url look in them?
How would #1 look as a advertising banner? http://www.250kb.de/u/061220/p/b3e131d4.png

Well....

George, I didn't know we were thinking about selling t-shirts and the like. News to me.

I thought what we've been talking about is a logo for the site that would be located in the typical upper-left-corner.

In any case, from a branding standpoint how we would approach that is to first develop a base logo design. That basic design can then be repeated into various formats such as a site logo, advertising banners, or t-shirts and the like.

My answer about an 80x300 logo graphic was for the site logo. The constraints on a site logo is first it can't be terribly tall, or it would squeeze out the site content, and it shouldn't be terribly wide so we still have room for words at the top unless we want the site logo to replace the words at the top.

Another icon to develop is the favicon which is a little icon shown by some browsers (such as Firefox) in the URL bar. Right now the default favicon is being used, which is the one the Drupal project has. But if we want to properly brand our site we should have an appropriate favicon.

selling t-shirts

David,
The logo is for the web site, if you click it it shows it on the site.
See: It's also a potential funding strategy to help sustain us below in I thought you wanted a Logo not an avetar.... LOL
The other promotion was just a thought, that was back when we thought we might need revenue.
T shirts were only mention as a example, there could be items that cost less than a dime with the logo to promote visforvoltage.org . I get asked almost every day by someone for more information and where can they learn more about EV's, and they don't always come out of the store with a arm full of stuff and have a pad and pen, so just give them something with the logo and url and it cost less than a penny.
I know I would probably buy a Coffee mug or something with the logo on it as well as others. That would be the logo with the url included. There are many events around the country where small items could be passed out. Here in St. Louis we have our annual Earth Day, and last year we had a E Max on display.
http://stlouisearthday.org/01FrstPark/EDfestival.htm
It also fits our Electric vehicle related discussion, advocacy, and information

Since the new V is need of another shot of green, how about some money making ideas in case advertising doesn't fully foot the bill?

1) Trademark "V is for Voltage", from the new site sell t-shirts, hats and such emblazed with the name, and cool designs of some kind.
2) Use donations to raise initial capital necessary to purchase said cool products.

Max,
Seems I was confused. I thought it was your logo and Chas added the lighting.
It's difficult to tell who replied to who.
My preference was to see http://www.250kb.de/u/061220/p/b3e131d4.png with the url added and a similar advertising banner like http://www.250kb.de/u/061220/g/4e9df822.gif using the same style letters as http://www.250kb.de/u/061220/p/b3e131d4.png .
The V in http://www.250kb.de/u/061220/p/b3e131d4.png is unique and could also just be used along as a identity for V is for Voltage just like this V is unique

the banner was a bit difficult to create:

here's the logo with the url:

I agree for the "thunderbolt", this is something unique because I created it myself with a drawing tool. Maybe you can add it with a white background to your moderator avatar. lol^^

If you want me to change something else on the logos like trying other fonts, just let me know.

Cheers

Logo Preview

First I downloaded the home page HTML.
Then I replaced the text "V is for Voltage Forums" with the graphic.
Then I had to remove the <H1> HTML Tag to get the graphic to display in the correct position.
Then I set my screen to 1024 x 768 and captured the screen. After a bit of manipulation I used the top left corner of the screen to create the following graphic.
logo_500_page.gif

Here is the graphic I inserted.

I hope this is what you needed.

Perfect, what is it you can't do?
Now we can run it by David, and get some community comments, and go from there.
I'll be looking for you on the IM, after you get caught up. Man do you got mail !
