Sorry to say this is NOT a correct statement. Anchors are used to link to a section of a page. Links are what take you to a page.
here is an example of a link:
<a href="Link">Link</a>
This is an example of a link with an Anchor
<a href="Link#anchor">Link</a>
A link takes you to the page and an anchor takes you to a location within the page. Remember for an anchor to be used there must be an associated name code in the page you are going to, which would look like - <a name="anchor">go to this part of the page</a>

Another helpful item is the target command, which I like to use. This command makes the link open in a new page or tab depending on how your browser is configured, and looks like - <a href="Link" target="_blank">Link</a>

FWIW, I'm still a Newbie, if it wasn't for copy and paste. I'd be dead in the water.
I really hope someone does one of those wonderful Help Tutorials on creating links.

Re: Moderator Testing 12 - Creating Links

I don't need a help tutorial all I have to do is put my cursor at the beginning of the link to be fixed and hit ALT-F11 and my computer does it for me.......

Well I probably need to finally break down and learn how to create them. When I couldn't locate it on my cheat sheet I went into a small panic.
What does above do?

Re: Moderator Testing 12 - Creating Links

You could always click them and find out...? They also have tooltips.

That thing with the > inserts "code" ... useful for geeks who want to share software snippets with each other

The thing with a planet lets you enter a link

The thing with an app window inserts a "break" which has a pretty arcane purpose.

The checkmark icon inserts ending tags for any tags missing their end tags. The tooltip says "closes open tags" which is a geek way of saying what I just said.

But I can't get it to work.

Re: Moderator Testing 12 - Creating Links

`
Same here, I've tried it several times some time ago, and couldn't see it do anything.
Can someone explain how the link thingey works?

What does a teaser break do?

What does the code thingey do?

And what does this mean?

Re: Moderator Testing 12 - Creating Links

The planet thing ... You click it and

is inserted to the editor. Simply make the "http://" read whatever URL you want.. then after the "]" insert the link text you want to use, and then click the planet thing and the tag closes so it might look something like

Seven Generational Ruminations

The teaser break ... I would suggest ignoring it. But... when Drupal generates an RSS feed, the contents of each feed item is the "teaser", the "teaser" being just the first part of the posting. It's also possible for the RSS items to contain the full items. The Drupal software can automagically generate the teaser, but if you'd like the teaser to be generated other than the default you can use the teaser break. It's a little arcane.

The code thingy ... it make text use a fixed width font that looks like it came from the 1970's. It's also ignorable.

The pirate thing... er... some guy with a parrot made me install that module. Honest.
