Synergy Twin Shock -- batteries good but no dice...this ain't ovah.

I bought a Synergy Twin Shock with a 600w BMC off CL for $15! The batteries are good and show 24v but not a peep from the motor. It spins freely. The bike obviously sat outside for a while. The 4700mF capacitor that had been soldered on and shrink wrapped at the factory has been squished, so I bet that was the original reason for parking.

Is there an easy way to see if the motor can be repaired? What is the point of the capacitor?
Where is the controller? I understand it is in the motor housing. True?

Is this motor worth messing with at all?

There appear to be some amazing upgrades available and perhaps it would be better to just go that route. I've found a slew of replacement motors with and without controllers ranging from $100 for a 400w Kollmorgen to $200 for a 1000w BMC motor plus $60 for a Currie controller or $189 for a 72v Crystalite; or something else?

Any help would be appreciated?
