Controller issue when wet

We had a heavy rain storm here after a long drought. I was parked under a slight oning but it still got pretty wet. then I had to ride in the thick of the storm and at work it sat in the rain. during the storm and for awhile afterwards that day, the controller kept switching itself on and off of E mode. I would be going up to 30 or 35 and it'd die and go down to 25, then periodically get power again and go back up. Flipping the E/P switch back and forth seemed to help a little. This ever happen to anyone else? might it have shorted out that switch? Should I try to keep it covered when it rains?
