VX1 Li LoCell Error

Hi guys,

Today my Vectrix get a LoCell error while riding with 6 bar left.
Lowest Cell was 260 and higher 300.

Do you know what unit the values are ?
LoCell error probably means that my battery is unbalanced.
I hope the charger will try to equalize it !!

O.

Re: VX1 Li LoCell Error

I'd say 260 = 2.6V and 300 = 3.0V.

I guess the 2.6V is the cutoff. Nice to see that Li Vectrix BMS checks voltage at cell level.

Do a full charge, including the EO (equalizing) part. If it skips, try, until it does, to drive only down to 7-8 bars left.

99,99% of Vectrix NIMH batteries have this error. What a pity we don't have any BMS to know about it...;-)

you have to leave the vectrix charging all night (around 12-14hours) to let it balance until the end of the balancing process...

Did you do these last charge?

No, I've never leave charging the Vectrix more than 6-8 hours.
Does the balancing process start after perhaps 8-10 hours ?

Re: VX1 Li LoCell Error

The balancing on the Vectrix Li pack starts after the constant voltage (CV on dash) phase can no longer maintain the highest cell at 3.65V. Equalization (balancing) really is just a continuation of the CV phase but with finer control of the charge current. The charge current drops to a nominal 300mA and each cell has a 300mA shunt that can be turned on and off by the BMS in order to maintain 3.65V. The balancing could take a long time depending on how out of balance the cells are. If you never allow the balancing to finish your fuel gauge will get out of sync with the batteries. In oley's case the weakest cell is hitting the minimum limit when 4-5 bars still show. With the Li batteries the fuel gauge and the battery SOC are synced when the EQ phase is completed, unlike the Ni which was synced on the full discharge.
And yes, 260 = 2.60V etc.

Re: VX1 Li LoCell Error

OK, thanks a lot for the information.

Now with ignition on the dash show Hi 352 and Lo 342 on EC 146.

Howerver with ignition off, the dash is off, does that mean that the charger is still doing equalization ?

What about the fans? Still running? Leave the vectrix plugged more time...

Re: VX1 Li LoCell Error

Hi Oley

When the dash is off, then the Charging Process has filished (EC146 = End Charge) an no fan is running,
There is only about 5W Power used on the mains.

Then with the mains plugged in, and the ignition switch then set to on
(if the dash is dark, you can switch on the ignition key),
you will see the following Information:

- The total Chargin time (all phases, CU, CC, EO till EC).
- in the middle display the Information: EC146, HiCell and LowCell Volatges
- In the left display the Voltage of the Battery

Greetings from Switzerland, Thomas

Ok, thanks.

Is it possible to force a equalization process ?

Not really. You would only want to EQ after charging in CC and CV for as long as possible. Otherwise an EQ would take forever. When the dash turns off, the charge and EQ is done. When you switch the ignition on while it is still plugged in to AC, the high and low displayed will be less than 3.65V and most times will be unequal. This is normal as the cells each relax to slightly different voltages.
