MC Fan always run

Hi Vectrix Fans.

My Vectrix have a little problem :(
In the last couuple of days I have The encodr Error and my vectrix stops completely.
After opening the encoder housing many water comes out.
I drying all and now my vectrix drives normally :)
The only issue is my mc fan..

When I turn on the mc fan always run and never stop :(

Whats the problem with my vectrix??

Thanks for your answers.

CU and many miles with joy :)

There is no problem, its fine if the fan runs all the time

HI Matt!

But.... Thats the mc Fan runs also by charging, and thats so loud....:(

Also its completely new.... over one year the mc comes only when I drive my vectrix fullspeed, and now everytime??!!!

Its a bug or is it normal?? I dont know......

Hi Mario,

The MC fan shouldn't be running when the bike is charging....that is weird....

The MC fan should run slowly (or not at all, it depends upon the bike) when turned on
it will speed up with both raised heatsink temp, and throttle position

I'm surprised you would be able to hear the MC fan over the (much louder) battery fans....

Hi MATT!

That IS my problem...
MC fan is running full power all the time when charging and driving :(
After charging full, the MC fan stops...

Now I dont hear the battery Fans, only the MC fan :(
Veeeeery loud......

I think its a problem after the water in my encoder last week...

Vectrix Germany will check this next week :) ( i hope so....)

Thanks

Mario

Re: MC Fan always run

I would open the motor cover and disconnect the encoder connector plug.

Then try if the MC fan still runs on full power. If not, I would guess that the fault is due to corrosion/water damage on the encoder sensor board.

With the 110km/h software the MC fan turns on when the bike is pushed (or the wheel is being turned while on the centre stand). That means that the encoder / motor is capable of sending some kind of signal to the rest of the electronic system that will make it turn on the MC fan.

Maybe the encoder board is "telling" the MC that your Vectrix is rolling all the time?

This information may be used entirely at your own risk.

There is always a way if there is no other way!

That would also mean the speedo would register above 0 all the time

Does the bike work properly otherwise?
If yes, I wouldn't bother with it.....

My guess would be a failed temp sensor, the one that bolts to the IGBT module from the main board

It just runs the fan (the internal IGBT temp sensor does the actual high temp cut out).

A temp sensor mlfunction could very well be the cause - but how about the water damaged encoder saying: "We are rolling backwards!" all the time?
An unlikely szenario, but not impossible, and testable.
I'll have to charge up the Vectux and take it for a spin to check if the speedo needle shows anything other than "0" when rolling backwards. However, that might be different in different software versions.

I think that the MC fan also starts to run (and at a fairly high speed) when (with latest MC 110km/h software) the wheel spins backwards passively.

Could anyone who has the latest official software installed try it out, please? I can't be bothered to change versions just to try it out....someone with a Vectrix and a centre stand could do this test easily:
A) Roll back and forth with no throttle applied - take note of the motor controller fan starting or not.
B) Do the same while the charger is charging the battery - much easier with a centre stand, but could be done without stand, too.

Does the MC fan start when a plugged in/charging Vectrix is rolling backwards?

Re: MC Fan always run

Under normal circumstances the encoder feedback (forward or backwards) does not have any affect on the MC fan speed. (For the Li bikes this is not entirely true, but for Ni it is). The current into the motor phases is what controls the instantaneous increase in fan speed during acceleration. When the current exceeds a threshold the fans come on full speed because where there is high current there will be heat. The SW does not wait for the IGBT thermal sensor feedback since this is too slow. By the time the heat travels from the actual transistors to the edge of the IGBT (sensor location) it would be too late. The thermal sensor controls the fan speed over long time spans. Any time you draw alot of current for a long time or when the ambient temp is high you may hear the fan run higher than normal for a while when you stop.
The problem could be the sensor, but I would also expect the performance to be less (the SW cuts back on current) or the hot heatsink error displayed (HShot) in the left display, but maybe not. Does the acceleration feel sluggish?

Otherwise I would say that the FET controlling the fan speed has failed and is just running the fan at full speed all the time.

BTW..the fans run at a slow speed when the scoot is enabled (assuming the sensor isnt detecting a hot IGBT). There was a problem with some controllers in that the FET base pull down resistor was too high in resistance which when coupled with the base capacitance (which varied from controller to controller) would cause the fan to run too fast when enabled. But since you stated that this problem just started happenning this probably isnt the cause.

Re: MC Fan always run

Hi !

Two days ago my vectrix smell a little electronically and the MC fan makes abnormal noise :(
Yesterday i turn the key on and.....
No MC fan is running :(
After my normally 22kms the heatpipe was very hot ..
My vectrix always drive normal but now I can damage my MC thats clear :(

Today the Vectrix Serviceteam take my vectrix to berlin and check all my problems...

Then I hope for many kms with my lovely vectrix ;)
