Using a Vectrix throttle on a Zero SR - controller settings

I'm looking to test out a Vectrix bidirectional throttle on a Zero SR and I'd like to hear from anyone who is familiar with the Sevcon settings in the Vectrix VX-2 to support throttle and regen braking. I've set up a separate regen lever successfully but have always liked the simplicity of the Vectrix throttle.

Also if anyone has a Vectrix throttle that they would be willing to sell please PM me.

Thanks

The output of a Vectrix throttle is a PWM signal. I do not think the Sevcon is capable of accepting this directly. You may be able to filter the PWM and make an analog signal out of it but it might not be smooth enough for a throttle signal. You could use a small PWM to CAN converter board and use an RPDO in the Sevcon as the throttle input. (an RPDO is a CAN configuration that tells the Sevcon to use this CAN signal as the throttle). The Sevcon is a real bear to configure tho if you dont have experience with it.

Thanks.

Am reasonably familiar with the Sevcon now and understand the RPDO inputs but it's probably easier to add a resistor and capacitor to smooth out the PWM signal and see how that goes.

The Sevcon does support digital inputs as well just not sure whether that would include a PWM signal.

Hi, I realize it has been awhile but was wondering
if you made any progress using the Vectrix throttle assembly or
would be willing to share any info learned from the experience?

I have a similar project in the works (using the Vx-1 throttle to
drive a Kelly controller).
Thanks

Re: Using a Vectrix throttle on a Zero SR - controller settings

Hi.

I did get an ex-Vectrix engineer to make up a CAN bus adaptor to be able to get messages to/from the Zero CAN bus but I couldn't find the messages on the Zero CAN bus to be able to interpret them so I gave up.

The Vectrix throttle is heavy and very fiddly to fit and from memory doesn't fit on a standard handlebar diameter.

I wouldn't recommend pursuing this activity. Much better to fit a separate hydraulic clutch lever with transducer to give you adjustable regen.

"... hydraulic clutch lever with transducer...."

YIKES!! and no thanks, I am heavily invested in
my bike with the accident and all; consequently would rather follow
thru on this with the VX-1 system - it really is not as bad as
everyone makes it up to be....

Thanks for the come back.
