GW Hype and environmentalist costing us $$$$
I think we'd see solar everywhere in the USA if it hit $1/watt somehow.
They were supposed to come out with polymer solar cells last year or this year or something like that at $2/watt but from everything I've read it's still not ready.
But cheap solar won't help transportation. What we need is cheap batteries. If LiFePo4 was somehow one tenth the price, oil use would become a fraction over a few years. They solved the high capacity battery safety issue, just not the cost issue.
I'd settle for 2 bucks a watt, like ovonics promised us in who killed the electric car, but thier product hit the market at about 8 bucks a watt. If my electricity costs were fixed, I could afford the high dollar lithium.
Deron, if you think Iraq was behind 911 you are as smart as Cheney and Rumsford. Sheesh how did that idea ever even get started? Of course now that we let em in, Al Qaida has peolple there. No way were they risking Saddams type of torture before.
Two dollars/watt?: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/09/industry_week.php
Two dollars a watt delivered, not promised is what i need to put 4 kw on my roof. The only thin film I've seen actually for sale is abut 7 or 8 bucks. Like cheap lithium, we're patiently waiting. Takes twice as much area too, so i'll need 25% more if I go thin film. Only so much good south roof.
Deron, you said they hit us and we hit them back, I assumed you meant Iraq hit us, When? Iraq hit, Iran, and hit Quwait, Al quiada hit us, when did saddam ever hit us? I try to understand others posts, but that one only reads one way to me.
And why do you think OBL attacked NYC? I'm betting you don't know your war (ahem, governmental conflict) history. I'll give you a hint: Who backed who in 1982?
On another note, in this 2004 transcript on Aljazeera.net, Message to Americans, Osama talks about being "involved in this policy of attrition in America to the point of bankruptcy". And today the US is $9.2 Trillion in debt? Interesting "war".
AF,
Good points.
Deron,
If you really need to know "Why they hate us" please read "Killing Hope - US Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II, by William Blum.
The events of Sept. 11, 2001 wer just a small taste of the atrocities the US, it's dictator friends, and it's very special friend Israel has committed over many years on people around the world.
Many millions have died for merely wanting to pursue an economy independent of US domination.
Please get educated.
LOL! Slam!
... I believe we attacked Iraq to put it out there that we would go after someone if we were attacked again. What I believe this would do is put the fear in other countries leaders heads of being taken over or attacked by the US if another 9/11 should happen. These countries would then think twice about supporting or harboring terrorist. ...
The point is Iraq wasn't supporting or harboring terrorists, but attacking them has increased dramatically the number of religious fighters in Iraq. In reality we have increased our risk by attacking someone for no apparent reason.
Wonderful. Lets make enemies and go bankrupt by trying to be the worlds police.
In the U.S.A. the candidate with the most money wins 95% of the elections. If you study voter habits, voters primarily vote based on name recognition. Yes, it is a corrupt system.
You claim the USA is the best place to live. If you lived elsewhere like Denmark, Germany, Japan, etc... you would believe they are the best place to live and would cite various examples to support your claim.
American people (as well as the rest of the world) need to stand up and make changes in the world.
.
If you look up happiest country to live you will find Denmark. If you talk to a German they say their standard of living is better than the U.S. because they get 6 weeks vacation a year and only work 36 hours a week. And the Japanese will say they are richer.
Sorry to veer off the GW train, but I had to jump in here:
"Bringing the fight abroad so we wouldn't have to deal with it here" is just another Bush Administration sound bite.
Bush as "Idiot Leader" was one of the most brilliant distractions the Neo-Conmen could have created. As they proceded to implement their "Plan for a New American Century" (i.e. US World Dominance), they needed to make it look like they were just the guy's next door - just "Reglar God Fearin 'Mericans" - as opposed to the international power cartel that they were. Bush totally deflects our attention from the mastermind Hawks behind the scenes like Cheney, Wolfewitz, Olmert, Krystal, etc. All the official reasons for going to war: WMD, nukes, terrorism, 911, "smoking gun mushroom clouds" were a wash.
The goal in attacking Iraq goes back to the mid 1990's with PNAC, AIPAC, and the radical factions of the Liqud party in Israel.
The real objective in going to Iraq wasn't even entirely to "Get their oil". That is just another Bush sound bite to keep the opposition spinning its wheels on something obvious. The real reasons we are there are 1. to give the USA a strategic controlling presence in the Gulf for the rest of this century, 2. to secure global oil production, and perhaps most significantly 3. to create security for Israel by destabalizing its neighbors!
Following that last point, the reason why we never had a real exit plan, the reason why we are rattling the bees nest of Iran, the reason why we sanctioned the demolition of Lebanon and continue to sanction the geopolitical imprisonment of the Palestinians is because we never had any intention of creating a Stable Middle East in the First Place!
If Israel's neighbors are in Chaos, their threat is minimized.
It's a good deal all around.
AIPAC get's to continue porking our senators, and we get to keep Israel as our Unofficial Middle Eastern colony - secret Nuclear Bases and all.
Since I know some people have been fooled by the administration into thinking the iraq war was legitimate, I want back up what awalsh just wrote ...

I wish people would read and understand what other people write before they reply, makes it real hard to get a point across.
Deron.
