LiFePO4 powered Phoenix Cruiser bike
Submitted by decibel1 on Wed, 06/18/2008 - 14:25.
Well, after fooling around with two big electric scooters (both Evaders), I put together a Phoenix Cruiser bike powered by a 48V 20AH LiFePO4 battery pack I bought some time ago from YESA. I used a $50 bike from WalMart (a Roadmaster "Mt. Fury" mountain bike) and the whole project came together very easily. I must say that I am very impressed with the range and performance of this combination. Range appears to be somewhere around 40 miles without pedaling under normal conditions and maximum speed is about 30 mph. The bike climbs almost any hill with ease, and overall performance seems better than I get on my scooters, probably because the finished bike weighs only about 80 lbs vs the 250 lbs that the scooters weigh. I bought the cruise control that comes as an option and that works great as well. Now my wife wants me to build her one!
