I'm building an Ebike, and here's my dilemna.

I found out I can wire a Crystalyte 5303 with a Kelly regen 100A controller. Regenerative braking is what I'm shooting for. Standard Crystalye controllers don't have it. However, Steven at Kelly Controllers informed me, I can't get a two-way twist throttle (forward/reverse) for braking, and I would need a seperate 5kohm pot or 5v sensor for regen braking.

Here's my question.

What if I use two twist throttles?

- One on the right for throttle.

- One on the left for Regen braking (twisting forward).

The problem is, what if I actuate both at the same time?

Does the throttle signal become dominant over the regen signal, so both won't actuate at the same time?

Any thoughts?

Just use the throttle for both the power and the regen. It is all software programmable.

- Disable the throttle switch
- Set throttle input to 0-5V
- Set brake levers as brake switch with whatever onset regen you like
- Wire throttle into brake analog input

When you pull the brakes the throttle acceleration will be disabled so you can use that 0-5V for controlling braking. You can set it up for either direction.

Patriot, was wondering if you got your crystalyte 5303 with the Kelly regen 100A controller to work together nicely? I may try the crystalyte 406, 36v hub motor with a kelly controller to allow for regenerative braking. Any thoughts on which kelly controller i should pick or if it will work?

Thanks,
Dave

Heres a thought...

Use your standard twist throttle - right hand
...and a thumb throttle - right hand, rather than two twisties - should give a nice feel, and total controll with one hand...

Another nice way of doing it is mounting it on the left side in reverse so you pull it with you're left index finger. You keep your other fingers on the left brake and reach with your finger. I hooked up one on my 3500li/w kelly controller and it works great!

That's a great idea. I didn't think of just using the existing throttle for that. I used a analog 0-5v thumb switch as described above. Doesn't it get a little confusing though. If you forget and release the brake with the throttle still on a little from braking THAT COULD BE BAD! Maybe it's not a big deal with a crystalyte but with the xm3500li it would lurch forward and scare the h*ll out of you.
