Upgrade motor

Howdy,

I am new to the EV world and have enjoyed reading through the posts on this forum.

I have a nameless Chinese large scooter that currently has a 48V/600W controller with a 500W hub motor. It is limited to 24 mph and I believe it gets close to that speed on flat roads. I do, however, loose speed on uphill grades, and grind to a complete halt on steep grades.

Golden Motor has a 48V 2000W hub motor that dimensionally looks like it could easily bolt right on. Would running a 2000W motor give me better hill climbing ability? Would I need to switch the controller as well? I don't care if the top speed remains limited, but I would like to have enough power to maintain that speed better and possibly improve acceleration.

Cheers,
Richard
