Vectrix VX-1 Will Not Charge

Hello,

I have a 2008 VX-1 which has been running and charging fine for 2000 miles.

It is still running but no longer charges. I've verified that power is still present at the outlet but plugging the VX-1 into the outlet has no effect.

What else can I check before assuming the charger is the problem? Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks

What happens if you try to start charging it (plug it into the socket) and then you turn on the bike with the ignition key?

Check connections at the Vectrix power cable plug. Also: Has the scooter "Exceeded its CREDIT LIMIT"?--If credit is too far "overlimit" no further charging is allowed! (That is what VISA told me!)-Bob

Hello and thanks for responding...

When I turn on the bike with the bike plugged in the bike goes throught te initialization sequence as if it were not plugged into the socket. If I raise the kickstand and do the brake sequence it would let me drive off with the plug still attached.

The bike turns on, therefore the charger is responding normally, it may be ok. Does the regen function work?
It seems that the charger is not receiving any energy. Try to dismantle the plug and check the wires.

After reading it again, just before sending off a premature contrary view, I realised what R meant!

But it is easy to mis-understand, so I shall add to the confusion thus:

It is responding dangerously abnormally!

So far it sounds to me like a simple cable break might be the cause. This VX-1 does not know that the plug has been plugged into a live power outlet, but it still runs!

What I've seen so far leads me to believe that a VX-1 with a malfunctioning charger would not run at all. I might be wrong, but I put my virtual VisforVoltage money firmly on the following bet:

"THE GRID VOLTAGE DOES NOT GET TO THE CHARGER"

Even if it turns out to be wrong, that is the first thing to rule out.

STOP RIDING BEFORE YOU DRAIN YOUR BATTERY UNECCESSARILY.

So, I agree with R.

Thanks for expanding my opinion. I also bet on a cable break. Try to dismantle the vectrix plug, and have a look at the wires. Have you ever noticed if the plug gets hot when the bike is charging?

Thanks for all the support!
I haven't noticed the plug getting warm but I rarely unplugged it in the middle of a charge.
I will look at the plug wires. I might not get back to this until Monday.

Interesting input from Steve Scott (Technical Manager,Vectrix Europe) when I sent him a picture of my charger...

"That is a Harting charger.

I would hang on for a moment as the new owners of the company will be announced within the next 10 days and they will then start to deal with the outstanding warranty issues globally."

I think I'll put in a claim - just to see if the new owners have better ethics and business sense than the last lot!

I Googled the term and found the result on this very forum from a few months back

Harting Charger - you will see a square grey metal connector (Harting type) that is retained by a silver metal clip. There are actually 2 of these connectors but only one is easy to see.

Re: Vectrix VX-1 Will Not Charge

I got a chance to remove the connector from the charger.

I verified with a meter that the voltage and ground signals were getting all the way from the prongs of the power plug to the charger. I also pulled apart the AC plug to look for bad connections - everything looks good.

Looks like my charger is bad.

Re: Vectrix VX-1 Will Not Charge

So, I've been emailing back and forth with Pawel Koch - Vectrix Europe.

My next step is to try to find a US dealer who will register my VX-1 so the new Vectrix company will consider honoring the warranty when everything is settled.

Does anyone know of a US dealer who is still talking with Vectrix? The ones I've contacted have all given up.

Is there no other way to register a warranty claim? Ingenious!
