Replacement Charger

My bike has 5 silicone (Lead Acid) 12 volt batteries in a contiguous array for a total 60 volt system.
The Chinese chargers that come with the bike are 60volt, 5amp and are very weak (8+ hours to charge and I have fried two of them in four months). They only cost $45.00 each. While doing research for a better charger, I can't find any other 60 volt chargers for less than $500.00! Can I charge this system with a 48 volt or 72 volt charger? Is the charger voltage critical to match? Please advise. Thank you.

Re: Replacement Charger

Try Cloud Electrics charger. It is on sale for $195.00 at http://www.cloudelectric.com/product_p/bc-hwc1b-60v-fslash-12a.htm
It can charge the U-1 size in two and a half to three hours. It is model HWC1B series 60 volt 15 amps. I fried all of mine too. I took them apart to try to repair them and they are packed with lots of white RTV or silastic stuff.

dont charge with a different voltage charger.
a 48v charger won't start as its cv transfer votlage is ~57.6v.

a 72v charger will either go bang the first time you hook it up (ineffective current control at low voltage) or overcharge the pack to extreme.

Re: Replacement Charger

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll just have to stretch my charger budget up to $200!
