I have been testing out different charger revisions on my bike, looking for one that will both charge my pack without the temp sensor boards connect and communicate with the motor controller.

revision 2017 won't charge, but will count down the bars

I have 3 versions of 3001:
the 79kb one will charge to 155v as in the "old" way (so tr = 1.5A).
doesnt count down the bars

the 83kb one does the same as above

the 85kb one behaves like 2017.

im getting hold of more revisions.

If you have any copy of a charger firmware (.hex file), PM me.

Matt

Now you're playing with fire! Many of the MC and CHarger codes are matched. You need the correct version of each.

Re: Charger software versions

That I know :D

fortunately a bad charger firmware isn't likely to kill a MC (whose firmware im leaving with the 68mph)

I am confirming all the charger firmwares are for the silver varieties, but if i get it wrong, the charger is pretty expendable as is.
I dont really use that one any more :)

someone has kindly sent me revision 2012 for the charger (silver version)

Ill report back how it goes.

Matt

Re: Charger software versions

thats the name on the Hex file,

the actual version is unknown as I dont have the source code it came from.

2017 is what diagnostic software version 2.1 told me was originally on my bike.

CHARGER_V2012_032708.HEX is what I am about to check.

Re: Charger software versions

2012 charges without temp sensors

it shows CP000
the other software that will charge without temp sensors showed CP155.

additionally, daig soft 2.1 says the charger reports battery capacity as 39Ah.
all other versions tested have shown no more than 32Ah.

I will report tomorrow if the fuel guage counts down correctly :D

max charge to voltage also yet to come.

Re: Charger software versions

2012 doesn't count the bars down (so doesn't read the A info off the CAN bus from the MC).

I did note that when the pack voltage went above 148v, CP000 changed to CP155.

Thanks for testing all this, Matt!

While you are at it, could you possibly measure power drawn during acceleration with you Cycle Analyst? That might allow to quantify the amount of power restriction between software versions.

You could also log the Canbus data stream to do this.

Re: Charger software versions

power will have to wait until my replacement 200v unit arrives.

presently I am usign a 100v unit to measure current, powered through a old laptop powersupply.

at full acceleration:

100A @ 30kmh
130A @ 70kmh
200A @ 80kmh
230A @ 100kmh

I'll report what voltage im getting when I get the 200v unit.

I haven't been riding around with my laptop yet :)

Re: Charger software versions

Are you ordering the 200V unit from Canada? I tried their Aussi distributor and was told to try ebikes.ca

How much is the Cycle Analyst CA-HC (High Current model) and the 0.25 mohm shunt?

Re: Charger software versions

Yep, I ordered it directly from Canada.

Mine actually arrived ages ago, but the inrush limiter resistor failed, so it went back under warranty.
I haven't really had a chance to follow up with it (I think I forgot to write the RMA on it :S)

I have several 100V normal models floating around though.

All cycle analyst versions have identical software.

If you already have a normal version, cut the original shunt off, and wiring goes:

red/black = positive and negative for voltage measuring and powering the unit.
the other two wires go to the shunt.

I already had a 100A 50mV (0.5 mOhm) shunt from an earlier project (they are quite easy to come by from ebay)

I would suggest a 100A 75mV shunt, since the current never goes beyond 300A.

max input voltage from the shunt to the cycle analyst is 200mV.

Re: Charger software versions

another update:

BCR versions
3001 85kb and 83kb can both have the fuel guage set by diagnostic version 2.1

since 3001 83kb also charges, I can now use the original charger reliably, if a bit inconvenient.

all versions of 2012 I have don't work :(

the GP lion 2007 revision also doesn't work at all, though I suspect it only works if the BMS board is also present.

Matt
