You are going to be lopsided if you have to carry it many times. Ha! Too bad you can't design and install a side ramp up the stairs. Then you could walk it up with a little assist from the motor. Just thinking out loud!

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

What do you guys think ... should the side aluminum be on the inside so you can see the frame or on the outside so the frame is covered? I don't know what would look better. Not sure if what I'm thinking about is even an option.

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

My vote is for expanded metal sheeting! Outside or inside, you could see the "guts" of the monster! My next would be "inside skin" to show off Craig's handy work. But, if you are worried about the prying eyes of others, then "outside skin" to keep 'em guessing. Styling suggestion: If skinned on the outside, put a slight "bulge" in the panels or cut a louver or place a tasteful air scoop somewhere to make it interesting. JMODO*

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

Well, here are some samples of generic expanded metal available in sheets, but if you scope out a fabrication shop you might find more interesting designs in the metal. A shop that does laser cutting of steel sheeting often has really cool scraps left over from cutting who knows what. Craig might know where some of these are or let your fingers do the walking.Expanded-Samples.gif

Here's a poor example of laser cutting left overs. This pattern wouldn't work, but you get the idea, I think.laser_sheet.jpg

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

I'd vote for putting the sheet metal on the inside if you have enough room for the guts. That way, the frame tubes would protect the sheet metal from getting dented. I think it would look cooler that way too.

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

Have either of you heard of the "boa lock" that Peugeot scooters has as a security option? It is a unique chain security system that stores in and retracts from the scooter. A little far fetched to try to duplicate, but something using a steel or aluminum length of tubing extending the length of the scooter might serve to store an equal length of security cable or chain. Admittedly, it would take a good amount of tinkering to get it just right, so maybe it's not worth thinking about. Ha, but I think about things like that! Good luck.

Tell Buckeroo Bob to mind his own business, but I had to make a drawing of my idea for the security chain. I know that whatever is decided on will turn out great. Good luck on a great project. I really appreciate seeing the details on how this scooter is evolving. Bravo to Craig and The Leland for sharing.Security_chain_tube_diagram.jpg

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

That boa lock is a pretty great idea. I'm not sure though that craig can incorporate the design into the existing framework without increasing the overall dimension - which are already hitting the ceiling. If he can that'd be great.

What do you guess the max speed is going to be? How much would a duplicate or something similar cost?

Re: Deafscooter Build off new "Limo Monster Scooter"

Before hiring Craig to make my scooter I thought about ordering the batteries and electrical components, going to my local metal shop, and trying to build it on my own. Seeing now all the detail and hard-core metal work Craig puts in I realize there is no way! The scooter is coming together very nicely! I can't wait to post some usage reviews ...

Bob - I like your yellow banana! I actually saw it before we drafted the design for mine and the trunk idea I stole from you.

One design feature Craig didn't highlight is that the scooter is expandable ... if it turns out to be a lot of snow this winter I can order additional parts from Craig to transform it into a snow scooter.

All it needs now is some warp nacelles hanging off the sides!
