My XB-600 72V Controller Blew!

Greetings,
I purchased Tom's (win32forth) XB-600 with a 72V controller and the extra battery.
It ran well for quite a while (several weeks) but blew up today Badly.

How it blew up was at a stall ( small 1.5 inch incline into my garage ) and I applied a small amount of power to get into the garage.
What happend next should make a number of us think about our setups.
The first thing was that the 30A fuse blew. But this fuse was not rated for the voltage involved.
In general the blade fuses you find are for automotive 12V systems. When my fuse blew, it arc welded its way to a fuse holder melt down.
That apparently caused the controller to blow.

I was lucky that the arc only lasted about 200ms because with the voltage involved and the tiny wiring, I could have had a great roasting of my butt on the scooter.

I will be doing some investigating of fuse holders that will take the current and voltage that the machine is dealing with. I may be changing some FETs in the contorller soon also. Maybe 100 V FETs are not enough for the long term operation with 72 Volts.

I am very handy with soldering iron etc. so that should not be too big a problem.

So a couple of questions.
1. Anybody else have this problem? If so what was done..
2. I saw a nice picture of the controller wiring somewhere and cannot seem to find it now. Anyone remember where??

XB700Li Help, problem with motor

I took my scoot to work the other morning with not a worry in the world. On my ride home after work there was some serious vibration from the motor when I needed to climb any type of grade. Also the bike had only about half the normal power when climbing any type of grade. On level ground it doesn't seem to have any problems. Any ideas as to what's gone wrong and how to fix it. Can it be fixed, or should I be looking for a new motor/wheel like I've seen on the 700Li mods thread. Any help is of course greatly appreciated.

Safe scooting,
Bickyd

700li - Half Power / Speed ?

Hello,

I have a 700li.

For a while it stopped charging and would just click. I took it to a scooter dealer and they said some wires had melted in the harness from the controller and had to rewire them together.

They got it to charge. Awesome.

But now, it only goes about half the speed it did before.

What happened? Any thoughts? I paid $112 to get it fixed, and now it goes half speed!

Thank you,
-Jeff

Freezing Batteries

Many people have mentioned the possibility of the lead acid batteries freezing on these bikes if the weather gets too cold. Why would the batteries freeze on my XB-600 if the batteries don't freeze in my cars, which I keep outside in below zero temperatures? Or is this a myth along the lines of saying that people shouldn't jog in cold weather because their lungs will freeze (not true), or people in hot climates shouldn't drink cold beverages because it makes their bodies warm up (also not true)? Explain, please.

xb-600 or xb-700li

hello every one. i'm thinking of buying a XB scooter just not sure which to go for the 600 or the 700li both seem to have similar specs for me most important is distance. am i better off spending the extra 500-600 on the 700li or is the 600 close enough? what is the difference between the 2? is it a big one worth the extra cash?

XB700Li mods

Go faster;
Company YKsuccess has a 800watt 48volt hub motor, controller, and tire with tube for $340 some dollars. That includes air mail from china. It took ab amazing four days to get here. It's perfect! I bought another battery from Xtreme ( just the batteries ) and mounted them under the seat. It's a tight fit but they fit. Then I solders a plug from the pwr supply of an old computer (they're the same as on the battery) onto the new batteries so I can use the same charger, and useing the female pwr cord from that old PC, I wired the old battery to the new battery in parallel so as to keep the 48 v but increase my amps to a 40 amp nominal rating. My 700Li goes almost 30mph even up 8 to 10 % grades. It's wonderful. I can still take out both battery packs and charge them or leave them in and charge them.

Now for the head lights. I used luxeon rebel stars. They are 500 lumens each, they were bought from ledsupply.com. I also bought the small sq heatsinks for them the have self adhesive thermal tape on them so the rebels just stick right to them. I also bought from thunderstorm.Com a 48v to 12 v converter to use. Now what I did was to cut the existing white bulb mounting brkt in hal. And mount the rebel stars right inside of it. They fit perfectly , I couldn't believe it , then just twist mount them back into place, wire them to the converter that was wired to the old lights ( I connected both hot wires for low and high beams together ) and use the gnd wire from only one buld. DON'T LOOK INTO THESE BULBS!! they are killer bright.
Ill try to attach pics soon.
