new EVT 168 model 2010: top speed and tire size
Submitted by peter3L on Thu, 01/07/2010 - 16:10Recently I tested the new 2010 model of the EVT 168 scooter in Amsterdam.
Improvements to the old model are:
- brushless motor (old model: brushed)
- 2800W max power (old model: 1500W)
- 48V 120A controller
- 100/60-12" rear tire (old model: 3.00-10")
These specs promise a nice top speed of about 60kph [37mph], which is good.
However, in Europe alle scooters are restricted to 45kph [28mph], which is too slow.
So I was thinking: the new rear tire is quite flat (100mm wide and 60mm high).
Changing this to a 100/90 tire, makes the radius of the rear wheel 30mm larger.
I calculated this will enlarge the circumfence of the tire by 140%.
If the motor is speed restricted, but powerful enough, a top speed of 63kph [39mph] should be theoretically possible.
Who has experience with this kind of short-cut conversion on a 2010 EVT scooter ?
Does it work or is there an even more simple way to do the trick ?
Charging problem - blown fuse?
Submitted by joru on Mon, 11/23/2009 - 13:39I can charge the batteries one-by-one with a 12v charger, but I get nothing when charging with the original 48v charger. The charging process starts fine, but ends too soon, and with no result. Someone mentioned a fuse that could cause this. Where would that be - in the (original) charger or on the EVT4000? I cannot find it anywhere. Where in that case? Or what else could cause this. I should mention that everything used to work fine until a couple of weeks ago. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Ecodrive in Vancouver carrying 2010 EVTs with new brushless motors
Submitted by jasonx on Wed, 09/16/2009 - 13:47It's true that EVT is offering a new brushless drivetrain with a considerable increase in torque. Searched around and found Ecodrive, the distributor for EVT in Canada have these in stock now. I called them yesterday to find out more about them. I was told that they are in the process of updating their website: evtcanda.ca. The motor chassis and controller box are 30% larger that the older versions with better heat distribution; 30 and 40ah lithium polymer batteries are available; top speed can go up to 70kph. $2,995 for models with GEL packs; at least 2k more with lithium packs.

Brake light switch for EVT4000e??
Submitted by lovesexy on Wed, 09/02/2009 - 03:17Hi
Kevin from this forum very kindly helped me out with my brake light issue...I now know that the 2 prongs on each brake light cable work, but it seems the switches are broken. Anyone know where I can get switches for the EVT 4000e?
Cheers
Charging dilema and a note of caution for all new EVT owners
Submitted by lovesexy on Wed, 08/26/2009 - 04:11Hi all
So here's my story:
I bought my EVT4000e second hand 3 months ago and have had a steep learning curve...2 days ago I was stranded in north Paris with a very low battery. I charged the batteries the night before but it seems the charging didn't work at all! So I tried another charging point in Paris, went back the next day only to find the same problem. The charger leds were on so I was really at a loss to understand the problem - especially given my lack of experience of electric scooter and, erm anything electric to be honest. Finally I checked the fuses leading from the charging port (in yellow casing) and noticed that one was blown. BINGO! Solved my problem. So for all you newbies out there, CARRY SOME 6.3Amp 250V FUSES WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!!
Now for the dilema:
My charger (not sure if it's the EVT 4000e stock charger) has just 4 led lights that flash yellow when charging. They don't seem to display anything when the batteries are fully charged. So when I set out I never now how full my batteries are - as we know the battery monitor on the 4000e dashboard isn't really accurate! I don't want to carry the charger with me everywhere I go as it might get damaged or stolen. If I don't I might get stranded again. So how do I know if my batteries are fully charged? Will they be hot to touch maybe?
Thanks in advance for any help

EVT 4000E controler upgrade
Submitted by Jerome on Tue, 08/25/2009 - 13:49Hello,
I'm seriously thinking to order a kelly controller KB72201 for my EVT (has 3000w brushed engine).
I'm looking for a decent controller and regen option is interesting. I'm planning to install later a 60V lifepo4 pack this is the reason I would prefer the 72v model (this one can work with any voltage between 24 and 72v)
Is it a good choice ? Does anyone did the same upgrade on its EVT?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers,
Jerome
