intro - solar bike
Submitted by joy on Sun, 11/15/2009 - 10:49New member ... My name is Joy. I bought my electric bike in 2001 with a subsidy from the city of Santa Cruz. Now I live in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Colorado. It's a hybrid road/mountain bike conversion, with a 24v lead-acid battery mounted above the rear wheel. I just ordered my fourth battery!
I live off the grid, using 24v solar. I'd very much like to be able to charge directly off of this, or even better get an on-board panel to increase power and range. I may also get additional batteries to switch over and recharge a few miles away, again to increase range. I am 15 miles back on mostly dirt roads, and must contend with low temps, snow, and wind.
I'm getting closer to the dream of true solar electric transportation. Wish me luck, introduce yourself, and give me ideas.
Cheers,
Joy

Super Conductors?
Submitted by Tupo on Fri, 11/06/2009 - 01:03I have wonderd why noone has used super conductors for there desighn of EV's. It seems to me that with the super conductors avalable now that they could be easly be used for a EV. Ether as a motor or in a coil fashion to increase the range of any EV. I was just wondering why this technology hasnt been considerd for any EV's.

ZEV 2009 3SP 3600
Submitted by Tupo on Thu, 10/29/2009 - 13:59I just purchased this bike and havnt seen much on the forums about it. Was wondering if anyone has had any problems with this bike. I was planning on getting the XB-700Li but i got the Zev 3sp 3600 for basicaly the same price due to no reserve price on ebay. So I got a realy great deal. I currently use a razor 300es to get back and forth to work. I have had that one for 2 years so was looking for a upgrade that could handle the hills faster than 5mp and somthing with a longer range. I was origanly trying to avoid having to get a tag and insurance but after checking the prices its not that expensive. The bike should arrive next week and ill take some pictures and create a blog about this bike and how it performs.
Makerbot -- mebbe for personal EV accessories?
Submitted by reikiman on Tue, 10/27/2009 - 17:12Just listened to an interview about the MakerBot http://makerbot.com/ and it's a cool idea.
The Makerbot is essentially an inkjet printer for solid objects. You feed into it a file describing a solid object and it prints that object one layer at a time (1/2 mm high layers) .. the current model makes relatively small objects so presumably they'll be making new ones over time. There are high end expensive 3D modeling and object prototyping machines. They're expensive. This one can be purchased (kit) for under $1000
All through the interview I was imagining designing accessories for EV's and printing them with the machine.
Anyone want to buy me one?

VisForVoltage on Friend Feed
Submitted by reikiman on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 12:47I just set up a Friend Feed site for V at: http://friendfeed.com/visforvoltage
It's a public feed meaning anybody can post there meaning it could serve as a sort of chatroom if anybody wants to use it that way. You would sign into Friend Feed, go to the above page, click on the Subscribe button at the top of the page. You should then be able to post on the group.
