Laws concerning maximum power and speed for electric scooters here in Quanzhou China.
Submitted by Guilou on Tue, 11/10/2009 - 19:16Hello everybody. I am an american spending most of my time here in Quanzhou(Fujian)China.I have tried searching for any information online about the laws here in Quanzhou. Lots of information about Shanghai, they are very strict about the top speed there, and the scooter "must" have been purchased there in Shanghai. From what I have gathered so far, each city and provinces are different. The reason for wanting to find out is that I am wanting one of the big powered electric scooters. I am currently riding a cheap 800 watt...48v little scooter. Maybe Mountain Chen( I believe he is located in the Fujian Province) or someone else could tell me or direct me to a website for Quanzhou rules and regulations.
Thanks everyone for any help you might be able to give me.
Have a wonderful day!

Alternative to a Controller ( Curtis , Alltrax , Sevcon )
Submitted by novembersierra28 on Mon, 11/09/2009 - 13:49Hi everyone
I just want to say what a wonderful forum this is, this is my first post. I am looking to build a slider throttle that is a variable resistor, but was wondering if anyone has come across such mechanisms. I know that the older golf carts used them in prehistoric times but nowadays everyone seems to be using controllers.
I don't have the bread for a controller so have been considering building this alternative
i would be very grateful if you could guide me on the build. 12v = slow, 24v = faster , 36v = a lot faster, 48 = hyper speed

Kelly KD72301 controller help.
Submitted by Team Tersus on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 12:18Hi,
I am a student for the University of Houston, College of Technology. My team is currently building an electric motorcycle prototype using a Etek-rt motor, 5, 12v 100ah batteries, and a KD72301 controller capable of 72v and max current of 300amps (120 cont.). I have made a simplified wiring diagram from the kelly user manual. After wiring and double checking all connections, I attached a 24v power source. (12v, 7ah batteries). Nothing happened. I did not connect the motor, however. Does this make a difference or could it possibly be the power supply? Also should i use the contactor when testing at a lower voltage than its rated?
Here is a basic diagram i drew up in Autocad. Its hard to see on the pic so i have attached a better pic.
Any help is appreciated, I will post pics of the project later this week.
Thanks
Team Tersus

Mavizen TTX02 teaser pictures, and announcement next week
Submitted by reikiman on Wed, 10/28/2009 - 13:24Mavizen (TTXGP) has been releasing a series of pictures and teaser information about the TTX02 bike. This is positioned as an electric superbike and targeted at teams who want to enter the TTXGP races. Over in the EV Racing forum I just posted a link to the TTXGP 2010 rules. I've been talking with Azhar and have a few bits of knowledge I cannot release until November 3.
The bottom line is they're planning to have 50 electric motorcycles ready for sale in Q1/2010 and these are meant for teams who wish to enter the TTXGP races. TTXGP entries don't have to buy this bike - they can build their own of course - but it's meant to give a leg up for anybody who wants to participate. The design is derived from Team Agni's winning bike design, in cooperation with Team Agni and Cedric Lynch.
I just posted an article on examiner.com: More info on the electric superbike coming soon from Mavizen

Someone posting on Asphalt & Rubber has identified this as a KTM RC8 frame. Azhar had told me they'd gotten the frames from a 'large manufacturer'. In my mailbox is an unblurred picture which I cannot release until Nov 3.

Beware of TTXGP / egrandprix.com
Submitted by pgt400 on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 10:04Beware of TTXGP site, email address of egrandprix.com About 6-7 weeks ago I ordered their TTXGP DVD, after a month not receiving it I got and email from a Manesh stating it would be shipped mid October. The other day I got an email from him stating they had decided not to release the original DVD but instead they would release a "premium limited edition" for extra cost. Yeah, like I'm really going to send these assh@les more money! What they should have done...1). not listed the product in the first place if they could not deliver in a timely fashion. 2). If there was a delay, let me know (without having to ask 1 month later). 3). Provide the so called "limted edition DVD" to those whom they had already taken money from and not delivered to as promised.

Keeping Warm
Submitted by Don Schaeffer on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 19:45I want to keep riding until the snow falls (which will probably be around November 1). I purchased an insulated vest and a balaclava to wear under the bicycle helmet. My goggles fit over the balaclava. Its cozy with temperatures below freezing. Does anybody ride electrc scooters in the snow?

Sunbird RAD2GO scotter mod
Submitted by Garry7k on Sat, 10/03/2009 - 20:43A friend of my grandfather's gave him 2 Sunbird Rad2Go electric scooters, both fully working, but in an unkept state, dirty and dusty. After the throttle went bad on one, i replaced it with another from the other scooter. After i got everything up and running, it seemed like the little motor was having trouble dragging me and the scooter around. If i gave it some assistance with the pedals, it quickly picked up. What I want to do is replace or modify the motor to improve torque and speed, or just speed. Ive looked at sites that sell motors, but they arent hub motors and i dont know how i would install them to the rad2go scooter.
Can anyone help me with this little problem? possibly some datasheets or manuals for the scooter? The little thing is so nice and almost silent, and if i didnt live surrounded by 45mph streets, id totally ride the little guy to work. I dont want to go 45, just possibly 25, and a little extra power to carry some groceries or other random small objects. Any help with this would be really awesome, as this little scooter just needs a little more power to be just perfect.
Ive got access to some welding equipment, but id rather not try to weld or perform any heavy mods like that, im afraid itll break while in use and impale me brutally.
one side note, I cant really peek at the controller, its been encased with resin in a metal bucket with screw mounts. it comes out fine, yeah, but you cant see or touch anything but metal or resin.
