What do theses switches do on the XM-3000

I have a few questions about the XM-3000.

Q1: There is an "on" and "off" switch directly under the seat, where you put the charger. If I put this switch on "off", the bike will go for 1/10 second and then no matter what I do I have zero torque. If I toggle this on and off switch and wait 1/2 hour and it is "on" bike runs again. What the heck does the switch do?

Q2: There is a "0" "1" switch on the right handlebar. What the heck does it do?

Q3: There is a red "starter" button on the right handlebar. What the heck does it do?

Q4: What mods should I make to insure this bike lasts a while. Should I add a heatsink or temperature sensor to the black power driver converter thing on the left side of the bike? Should I avoid ever getting battery on yellow?

List of present mods:
1) cosmetic do dads.
2) Rear hard case trunk.
3) Both handlebar covers were pointing too far up, so tips of fingers would get squished. I added spacers on the top two screws to angle them down more so there was some room on top and bottom for fingers.

Q5: Bike squeaks sometimes, but it is not brake related. Do I ever need to oil the wheels? Or are they sealed.

Q6: How bad is water for this bike? If it is sprinkling, can I drive it? If there is a small puddle, do I need to drive around the puddle? Does it need to be stored in a garage or would a cover work for it?

Thanks in advance.

The XM-5000Li One Year Later

I thought I would update anyone that is interested.

See "XM-5000Li and XM-3500Li Comparison (My Experiences)" for previous experiences and modifications.

The temperature range I rode in was 35 to 85 degrees The lowerest temperature I rode in the XM-3500Li was 25 degrees

It seems that riding in temperatures over 80 degrees has a limit of around 25 miles or about 30 minutes. That's when the motor overheat sensor engages. It's around 125 degrees using a external thermometer.

I was able to average between 40 and 45 miles per charge with an average speed of 40 - 45 MPH.

Here are the options and replacements I made:
I installed a self powered voltmeter on 3/18/2009 at 200.5 miles
I replaced the ignition switch (under warranty) on 4/17/2009 at 536.1 miles
I replaced the circuit breaker due to it tripping occasionally (BLUE SEA CIRCUIT BREAKER CA1 100A WHITE 7250 from Marine Deal) on 9/24/2009 at 1969.2 miles

I started having (what I consider) issues with the batteries the beginning of November (2009) at around 2260 miles.

I charge the batteries completely (voltmeter reading 80 volts) and after going down hill for only one mile the battery gauge drops into the red zone and the red light light starts flashing. The self-powered voltmeter indicates 65 volts. I've started putting the charger under the seat so that I'll have it if it is needed, as I'm not confident that I can go very far.

Even with the 65 volt reading most of the time I found I still get about 30 to 35 miles per charge (this is on the identical commute as before the battery issue began). It still goes over 60 MPH, so the power is there, just not the distance. There is now 2501.6 miles on the odometer.

Overall I'm still pleased with the XM-5000Li. It is a major improvement over the XM-3500Li (I like the extra speed and distance)

I'm hoping there is a way to re-condition the batteries to get the 22 percent back (back to 40 - 45 miles per charge. Maybe the 22 percent will come back once it gets warmer.

4.5KW hub motor mounting problem - Axle keyed differently

I received my XM-3500li back in the beginning of December 2009. I rode it for a week before disassembling it to modify it with an extra 4 lithium cells, a BMS, a 4.5KW motor and a controller with regen.

It got to be too cold during the winter to really work on it, but now that things are warming up I'm excited to finish this conversion.

Yesterday I removed the rear hub motor wheel and took it down to the local motorcycle shop with my new 4.5kw Kelly hub motor to have them swap the tire and disk brake. Today I tried to mount the new motor on the moped, but I came across an unexpected problem: The original motor's axle has cut-outs on both sides to hold it securely into the frame. The new Kelly motor only has the cut-out on the side where the electrical cables come out, but not on the side with the disk brake.

I've attached pictures of the problem. So what do I do? I have an angle grinder that I could use to cut down the axle, but I'm afraid I might damage the thing.

I've heard of others creating XM-4500's, so how'd you make it work?

Thanks,
Alan

2010 4000Li

Electric Vehicle Mall has new 4000Lis for $4,149 plus shipping. the pic shows 16" wheels, the specs say 13. Anyone know for sure? Anyone have a new 4000 yet? When they say "Smart Charger" does anyone know what capabilities that actually means? Thanks!

XM-3100 controller for sale

I have a brand new XM-3100 controller. I bought it to replace the controller on my Zapino but I found out that can't be replaced with the XM-3100 controller. Price is negotiable. I paid $275 for it so I would like to get as close to that as possible. The controller has never been used and no wires have been cut. Brand new. Make me an offer.

Brand new xm3500li with problems

Hello to all on the forum! I just got an xm3500li delivered yesterday. I got the bike uncrated, and found the breaker and turned it on. I put it on charge, and after about 3 hours, it shut off. I tried the bike out and it would not run at all, despite the lights and horn all working. My friend found a connector that had a matching plug near it. He hooked it up and the wheel will turn, but groaning and stuttering. It never gets any speed going. It does not have enough power to pull the bike, but will only jiggle the bike around when i give it throttle. I noticed there are 2 identical plugs coming from the hubmotor, black body to the plug, with a white surface where the 4 thin wires come in, and yellow rubber gasket around it. It looks like the throttle connection? I opened a repair ticket with xtreme, and the reply came back to try the other plug. I have already done this, so I restated that in my reply back to them. Let's see what comes back next. I notice that if the hub stops in a certain part, it will not turn again until you rotate it past that "dead spot". Then it will turn feebly. I have a video that shows the problem...

Thunder Sky 40AH Battery Failure

Hi everyone - I have had my XM3500 now for almost a year and a half now, and ride it when I can. I have provided no other method for charging the 20 Thunder Sky batteries except using the factory charger. No BMS was used at all. After a year and a half I first noticed my range dropped off almost by half of that when it was new. When new I could get about 25 miles out of it riding it hard.
Yesterday after a charge I got it out and noticed that after about 5-6 miles that the controller would cut off the current to the motor, until the battery level meter came back up. I also noticed that when crusing normal that the battery level meter ran dangerously close to the low indicator. Remind you, that 5 miles ago the bike was fully charged. I limped the bike in economy mode back to the house and let it sit over night without putting it back on the charger. Today I removed the skirting and took individual battery cell readings.
All the batteries reported approximately 3.30 volts, with some being as higher or lower by .05 volts, which in my book was normal, except for one battery that was ZERO! This cell had completely shorted out. I took a picture of that cell you your visual information. Notice the top of the cell appears damaged, and has a white crusty fluid coming from it. Rest assured, nothing hit it. Guess I'll be ordering a new cell, but I wanted to point out what a failed battery looks like, typically.

xm3500li power cutting off

Hi, I just purchased an xm3500li and everything is great but when I ride it, the power/motor occasionally cuts off. I have no idea what the problem is. Any help????

Winter storage of my XM-5000Li

After my scooter was standing still for 1,5 months I decided to put the scooter in winterstorage in the garage of my mom.
Before riding it I measured the cells and the where all 3,354 volt. So not using the scooter seems to balance all the cells!

Does anybody now whats the best way to keep the battery in perfect condition????
In the garage it can and will freeze (-10).

I now have 3901,6 Km on the speedometer and used 236,7 Kwh on power.
