Posting to your V blog using desktop blog editor like MarsEdit or iPad blog editor

V is for Voltage supports making blog posts as well as forum posts.

Some people prefer using blog editing software like MarsEdit to make blog posts. Thee are dozens of these applications, for Windows, for Mac, for iPad/iPhone, etc. They all rely on blog posting API's to do the blog posts, and V is for Voltage also supports those blog posting API's.

The process is fairly simple, and might just work out of the box depending on the application you're using. I just tried it with MarsEdit and the BlogPress iPad app. Both connected right up to V's blogging service.

Resizing pictures and uploading pictures to V is for Voltage

Pictures can be readily uploaded to VisForVoltage if you take some care. The file size has to be less than 2 megabytes size, and for display the picture has to be 500 pixels wide (or less). The first limitation is imposed by the hosting provider, and the second is required so the page layout stays sane because otherwise large images would throw page formatting off-kilter.

Editability of forum posts and other content

In http://visforvoltage.org/forum-topic/how/145-subscribing-postings-and-getting-notifications-mail#comment-38857 it was made clear there is misunderstanding of why the edit-ability of different posts are the way they are. Let me explain..

It's a policy decision. Not a deficiency in the software. It could be changed in a moment with a permissions setting.

The existing settings are:-

Subscribing to postings, and getting notifications by mail

A new feature has been enabled on the site which will let you subscribe to the site so that you will get e-mail notifications. It is your choice whether to receive email notifications, and how many.

Subscribing to an individual post: You will see in the links at the bottom of a posting "subscribe post". Simply click on that and you will be subscribed, meaning you will be notified on any update to that posting.

Difficulty editing subscription options or unsubscribing

I've subscribed to a category, but I've decided I'd rather subscribe to a few key threads and not the whole category (Vectrix). I've gone to 'my account' > 'subscriptions' > 'categories', and there are my two categories, checked. However, if I uncheck the category I want to unsubscribe from, it doesn't matter if I hit 'enter', or scroll down to 'save' at the bottom of the page, it always reloads and the category is checked again. I've tried using the direct unsubscribe link in the emails I receive, and it just takes me to 'page not found' this happens in Internet Explorer and Chrome.

New replies not showing

Is it just me, or do new replies not show up at the moment?

When I saved my message, it took ages only for a 'Page not found' error. When I checked the topic, my reply was saved although the topic does now show that I last responded with my username and there isn't a red notification to say the topic has been updated.

This is happening in Firefox 32.0.3 and IE 11.

Threads locked or somehow blocked for access?

Hi,

I tried to send someone a link to a fan conversion I described a while ago, but the thread seems to be locked. Nobody can access it any-more.
How does this happen and how can we restore these threads?

I tried to share the below thread:
http://visforvoltage.org/forum/12421-low-noise-fan-modification

Thanks
