Hi, I have posted this in both Merida and General Forums. I am inquiring if anyone either has contact with or access to the modification notes created by a chas_stevenson concerning the Merida TEV 550 and/or its relatives. He had a web link and e-mail address ( chas_stevenson [at] yahoo.com ) posted in some Merida forums, however the link is no longer valid and there was no response from the posted e-mail address.

I pickuped up a 550 TEV from CL and I am trying to get it operational.
The generator tire light wire is missing, the front head light is missing, and the rear brake light cover is gone (did not care about any of those items).
Outside of the genreator lighting system, it appears to be in good order; however, it has dead batteries (12V & 10.6V respectively), so until I replace the battery I will not know the status of the motor/controller.
The Keyswitch will beep the piezo when flipped on, but again it shows at 0% due to the battry system being at 22VDC.

I HAVE REPLACED THE OLD LONG BATTERY WITH 2 SONIC 12V9HA SLA COST $39.00 EACH IT IS N0T A PERFIT FIX BUT IT WILL WORK AND LAST ABOUT 2 YEARS . The case will be open on the sides about 1/12 in. You can close it up with duck tape along the split. I painted the case white, same color as the bike and used white duck tape and some fun decals to hide the tape ,it looks good

I have developed an odd, intermittent clicking sound from the pedal area. Any ideas what it might be?

I have a Merida 550 that worked well until recently when the assist completely stopped kicking in.
My guess is that the controller is the problem in which case I am probably going to have to replace it with a controller/ throttle system-- does anybody know of any other options?
Another possibility is that the pedal sensor has stopped picking up the pedaling motion, but I am not sure how to test this.
The motor works-- I tested it with direct voltage.
Anybody have any success solving a similar Merida problem?

I am going to attempt to open my battery box to measure the dimensions of the batteries and the inside dimensions of the space available in the box for alternative batteries. Does anyone who has done this have any do's or don'ts or how-to's for opening the battery enclosure? Thanks.

I have looked over all these forums but am still confused about what todo.
I have the bike. I have the battery case. I want to get a 24volt 9ah, or a 36volt 9ah battery put in.
If i buy a 36volt, does that mean i need to get a new volt controller and charger? Any other kind of modifications?
If i put in one 24volt 9ah batter will I need a new charger because It origionally came with two 12volt 9ah batteries.
If i buy a 12 or 24 or 36 with a different "ah" will i need a new charger?
Dan.

Hi, does anyone here still have their original Merida Powercycle/Total-EV 500/550 batteries. I found a website claiming that it had batteries comparable to the factory originals and compatible with the bike. The main concern that I have read about is that the originals were of a unique size and dimensions which are difficult to find. If someone would post the dimensions of an original battery (in both imperial (inches) and metric (cm) please) I could compare them and I will report on how close of a match it is. Thankyou.
