"HoverKarts" - karts with self balancing scooters aka hoverboards & parts

As part of Light Electric Vehicle (LEV) tech training we have found the internals of self balancing scooters, aka hoverboards, are excellent examples of EVs as well as very affordable and accessible. Here is one annotated photo we are using in a presentation on LEVs:

Question about pepping up my electric go kart.

My son and I recently modified his Serengettin Solar wing go kart from a 24v 350w set up to a 1000w 36v system. This included a 1000w motor and controller. I am using 3 12v 7.5Ah AGM batteries. We though it would be considerably faster however it is not much faster on the top end however on the bottom end has much more power. Does any one know any ways I can get more top end? Were at about 12 mph though we would be closer to at least 20. I do have an additional 12v battery as well as another 24 volt. Any advise would be helpful.

Constructing a solar powered soap box cart

I am working on building a low cost solar powered wooden cart to carry only one person. I am having challenges in selecting the appropriate energy saving and efficient components. Please i need your advice in making choice of wheels, dc motor and solar panels. How do I select the appropriate rating of dc motor to drive a total weight of 200kg and which rating of solar panel will be most appropriate? Do you consider super-capacitors a better option than batteries for my project?

Electra Motorsports RS go-kart

I snagged one of these this week.

These are the production karts used at electric go-kart tracks. Now if my sub was only black top instead of dirt..

:: 15 HP Series Wound Motor
:: Sevcon 0-400 Amp Controller
:: Four 12V 50AH AGM Batteries

Spec on the RS at
http://www.electramotorsports.com/rs.html

might be able to snagg another one or two. Any interest at $600 for a cart, 220v 60 fast charger?
Shoot me an email at tchapin at umich dot edu

electric go kart controller set-up

ok im getting started on an electric go kart and im pretty stoked. i just have some things i need to clear up on. i am going to run 48 volts on a 36 volt golf cart motor, which is what the golf cart was running on before i took it apart. i now have the batteries, motor and old controller (not solid state) out of the golf cart and ready to be made into a go kart. i am unclear exactly what controller i need for the best performance.

What 36 Volt motor will work best with this battery?

The battery I'm considering is 36V 10AH LIFEPO4 Lithium Battery electric on Ebay at about $260.00.
I plan to use this on a home built board with my own deck and mountain board trucks and wheels. I see a lot of 36 volt motors that might work. What wattage is best. I'm thinking brushed motor to help keep cost down.

I realize these duct tape Chinese batteries have their risk.....

Thanks for any advice...

Scott
