Another motor with problems

I have a 2003 EVT4000e. I've had two motors with problems in about 1500KM of use.

My first motor developed lots of drag and it turned out it got water inside (and it was only
outside in one storm). I got it replaced at a nearby dealer for $500. Wish I had kept the motor
now...since now I need a part from it!

My second motor, I was noticing a lot of drag again so I took it apart and two of
the magnets are cracked (on opposite sides), and one piece of one magnet was raised up probably causing the drag.

My question is, what should I do from here? Should I just take the cracked ones out and
put it back together and try it? Or superglue back the bigger pieces and just remove the small
pieces?

Or cough up another $750 for the newer 3000W motor? How do I know it will not die in 500 miles? This is getting ridiculous.

Does anybody have a 1500 motor shaft with intact magnets they would like to sell?

Thanks,

Would my burned-out motor help you any?

Yes, if it's just the wiring that is burned out. The part I need is the shaft with the magnets.

If you decide to use glue to repair/re-attach magnets in a motor, do NOT use "Superglue", use a good, 2 part, high-temperature EPOXY, such as "JB Weld"--Clean the parts thoroughly before applying the epoxy, and file off any excess epoxy after it hardens.--Bob Curry

Re: Another motor with problems

I determined it is impractical to reattach the magnet pieces. When a magnet breaks,
the edges that connect repel each other VERY strongly.

Fortunately the magnet that broke is still 2/3 intact so I'm hoping the motor will work. However, when I reassemble the motor (using
a gear puller for control), the outer aluminum
cover plate does touch the rest of the housing. There's a gap of about 3/16". I don't know
how to make it all come together again.

Furthermore when I turn the shaft (with a wrench) with the motor almost back together (except the 3/16"),
there is a LOT of resistance. More than I would expect from the brushes alone.

Has anyone experienced this?
