Scooter Headlights >>>>>>

I have a 2006 Emax Sport and I ride it a lot at night. It came stock with incandecent 25watt BA20D bulbs. I have replaced it and upgraded them to 35watt Halogen BA20D bulbs but they still are very poor at night. Anyone know how I can upgrade these to better lights ?? I would like to try to put a single HID bulb in there which would run at 35watts also which is same as I have now but would be much brighter, but they donot make HID's for that bulb type. Any ideas ?? How are the headlights on the other scooters like the EVT-168, Lepton Oxygen, XM-2000, etc. ??? What type bulbs do tey use ??? Thanks for any info. God Bless :)

` :?
I have the same problem with my 10 watt, and was thinking about upgrading also. PJD reminded me to check my 48 Volt to 12 Volt converter to see if it could handle that much of a increase.
He is now also now a EV Tech Advisor and as you know a E-Max owner.

Gman, thanks for your concern, but I am pretty sure I *should* be fine, as the bulb I am using now is a Halogen 35watts up from the stock incandesent 25watts and HIDs are also 35watts but as you know put out much more light. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

Re: Scooter Headlights >>>>>>

As far as scooter headlight bulbs. 45 and 55 watt versions of the standard bayonet-style bulb are available.

While I expressed concern earlier about the greater load on the DC-DC converter, I don't think it will be a problem. But, what might be a problem is the higher wattage bulb overheating and melting the plastic headlight reflector or lens.

I am nearly always riding in areas with street lighting, so I have found the 35 watt halogens to be plenty bright.

Re: Scooter Headlights >>>>>>

Look on the web for LED bulbs. There are plenty. An LED's give of very little heat so you can use a brighter one without melting the mount or plastic. I have a Lepton Oxygen (electric scooter) and am looking into replacing the bulbs with LED. I suspect I will have to hard wire a LED bank for the head light. The headlamp lens is crap so I need something brighter.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Re: Scooter Headlights >>>>>>

Recently I just bought another headlight case to play around with for my EMAX and inserted a 50watt MR16 halogen bulb. I had to glue it temporarily with high temp silicone and I can say that it is much brighter and I like it. Problem is that at 50watts, my stock bulb is only 35watts, it may tax my electrical system, but so far it does not seem like it. I am actually going to purchase a HID MR16 bulb and ballast made by TRAILTECH here:

http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3342

With this, it should only draw the stock 35watts and be much brighter, even brighter than the 50watt halogen I have now. I hope this helps. God Bless :)
