Long equalization Vectrix

Hi,

In the last time, my vectrix did long equalizations.. For example, last thursday, the equalization started 6.00am and until 7.00pm the equalization didn't stopped, and the high cell value was 4.15V and low 4.05V. The bms temperature was normal (wasn't normal). Now, when i charged my vectrix, she didn't equalize.. I sent a e-mail to vectrix parts but they don't answer..

This situation it's normal?

Re: Long equalization Vectrix

If I were you, I would plug in the peak cable, take a picture of all cell readouts of the BMS, and compare these values with the real voltages, mesured with a voltmeter directly on the cells.
If any large difference arouse between system read voltages and real voltages, the BMS/wire system is damaged, and it can seriously damage the battery. Stop Charging/using the vectrix and request help to the people who converted your vectrix.

I will follow your advise.

Re: Long equalization Vectrix

keep us informed, please...
May be interesting also to visually inspect the BMS electronic components, to find out if any component is damaged.
Every input about the vectrix BMS system is very valuable to all Li vectrix users.

The BMS it is OK, the problem is the Battery Pack. My dealer will change the pack for a new one.

hi vortex, what battery do you have in the VECTRIX?
So, long equalization resulted into battery damage?

The failure rate of leaf's cells hangs around one cell every 100.000 cars. There are 96 cells in every car, only 1 cell in 10 million fail.

I guess the battery's cell is overcharged by damaged BMS, rather than chemistry failure due to defective cell.
Changing the pack without ensuring that the BMS is really OK will lead to another long equalization and battery failure.

Re: Long equalization Vectrix

I had a 50ah pack with samsung inr 18650 35E..
This Pack doesn't has a large capacity current discharge and it's too small, so it's not appropriate to vectrix..

When the problems began, the low cell only had 4.08V capacity and high cell had 4.15V, so the bms tried infinite do the equalization.. In a few days the maximum low cell capacity was 3.80V..

Now my dealer will put 1400 cells from samsung inr 18650 13L..

Not really... The low cell did not had 4.08V. THE BMS! read lo cell 4,08V. How can you assure that the BMS isn't damaged? is it reading the real values correctly? If the low cell was at 4,25 and BMS read 4,08, that sustained equalization would kill the cell.

I have measure with voltmeter, and the values are equal to the BMS values.. So i believe the bms is good..
But i don't have other choise.. the battery pack is damaged and i need change it.. and take more attention with the equalization process.

Great, this is what I wanted to ensure! This BMS LTC chipset turned out to be very fragile, if it gets damage it reads wrong values, and it kills the cell without any warning.
