oil leak at rear hub

I noticed oil over the rim on the rear wheel the other day and found a leak coming from the area between the planetary gear set and the electric motor. I dissembled and found the seal runner on the back of the gear set was spinning on the hub of the motor so the oil seal had not failed. The oil was coming out under the seal runner I clean the area and loctited the seal runner back into postion fitted a new seal, fresh oil as all is well. This happened at 35000 klms If any one needs to purchase a new seal for the job the part no is tc821008 regards rob

I had this experience too, but after I did the gearbox modification. When I took it back apart to see why it was leaking I didn't see any tears in the seals, so I just put it back together. I think I had just overfilled it. Did the new seal stop the leak? Where did you order the seal from? Vectrix never answers my emails!

I have three of these available at cost. I bought 4 of them, one for me and three to avoid getting stung on a minimum order charge... about £10 each, they worked out at, including shipping...

I have notice now I have another oil leak on the left side of hub ...when I removed the two covers on the left I see I have a leak coming from around the encoder shaft. does any one know which side I need to dissemble to get to the oil seal? And maybe the size of the seal that is in there? My scooter is about to clock over 133 k regards rob

Re: oil leak at rear hub

I replaced the worn oil seal today that was causing gear oil to leak into the electric motor The oil was leaking pass the output shaft ( the seal part number is tc20367) to replace it you need to go into the right side ( planetary gear) I will try and post some pics of this area. To get the old seal out I carefully drilled down the side of the seal with a 2.5mm drill bit then used a metal thread screw into the seal so I had something to pull on using pliers.
