Bicycles for climbing mountains

A couple weeks ago I was chatting with an acquaintance who has been experimenting with electrifying recumbent bicycles and sometimes selling electrified recumbents. He's been using the Heinnemann hub motor for a long time and he told me that 2-3 months ago he got a Crystalyte 5xx series motor to try out.

Reviving and upgrading a Lacocca ebike

Hi guys,
I need help getting my Li Lacocca’s e-bike alive again. It’s the 24 v type. The motor is not running now and I suspect it might be that the battery is dead (it has been ignored for more than 1.5 years). So I am thinking that since I am at it, I might as well try to upgrade it to 36 volts for faster speed. I need help figuring out where to buy the missing parts:
1- I need the 36 volt batteries that can fit in the existing battery compartment. I prefer non SLA unless they are too expensive. I would appreciate a web link to where I could order them from

Waterproofing and removable battery.

OK. I have my full suspension mountain bike that I intend to use for the project.

I intend to use a crystalite pheonix hub motor, 2 sets of 48v 10 AH LiFEPO4 batteries wired in a parralell circut (because I've heared the batteries have trouble putting out high amperage) from pingpong along with the included charger, and a standard crystalite controller.

Now, I have two questions:

First, what would it take to go to 60 volts, and how much speed would the extra 1/2 HP give me?

Powerpack motor

Has anyone had any experience with the powerpack motor? I am converting my recumbent tadpole style trike to an ebike using a lashout gear reduction drive a 26 inch wheel with a bolted sprocket. now I have everything, but the motor, controller, batteries, charger, throttle, wire, fuses etc.. I want to use a Kelly 100 amp peak 60 amp continuous at 48 volts. this is my first experiment with ebikes will the Powerpack motor take the 60 amps @48 volts without being smoked? is this motor robust enough to take this much juice.

Giant LaFree motor/transmission

I was wondering, has anyone seen the inside of a Giant LaFree transmission? From the outside pictures I have seen, it looks like it must have some sort of worm drive. What has me curious is, do these things have grease in them or oil? If it's grease I'm going to tear into mine and put some new grease in it. It's a 2002, so if it's grease it could be getting dried up.

Thanks, Deron.

Battery boxes

I would like to move from a rack mount, 3 battery system to a frame mount battery box with 4 batteries.

There are two water bottle mounting points, one on the seat post and one on the lower frame bar (don't know the right term for it). There could also be a strap across the frame and bolted down to the box near the top of the box.

Source for connectors and wiring?

I am looking for a source of high quality crimp connectors: Crimp butt joint connectors, battery tab connectors, two to one wire connectors, and trailer connectors for 10 gauge wiring. I would prefer marine grade connectors but other high quality connectors would work. Also I need 10 gauge wire, black and red sheathing, enough to build a new battery harness.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a source for these items?

tnx

Tire types?

I have read that they make low rolling resistance tires for cars, do they make them for bicycles? If they do, any idea what percentage increase they would give you over a standard set of tires.

One other thing, I noticed that E-bikes and Pedelecs do not use the skinny 10 speed type tires, has anyone rode a E-bike or Pedelec with them? If you did, what was the ride like?

Thanks, Deron.
