How to open a crystal hub motor

Here are some pictures that show how this is done. These are not my pictures they were sent to me by a friend. I thought they might help some of the other members.

What makes the Xebra go?

I've read all over the ZAP website, and in forums and reviews, and cannot find anywhere the type of motor used in the Xebra three-wheeler. Does anyone know what it is and who makes it?
thanks,
M

DC vs. AC motors

I saw that REVA in India is switching over to AC motors, and that a lot of people were excited about it. Why is that? What are the benefits of using an AC motor over a DC one. I was thinking about getting an ETEK DC for a motorcycle project. How would that compare to their cheaper AC motors?
thanks,

UPDATE ------I rewound my first motor, it runs great.

Update on my rewound UE motor.
It was running great, lots of power and about twice the speed. So i wanted to push it all out up a steep long hill. When i got to the top of the hill it seemed to loose about half of its power, i took it easy and rode it home to take it apart to see what happened. To my amazment 2 of the 4 brushes melted the solder and the wires came off. Wow thats about 460 degrees, much hotter then i would ever had thought. I'll try to buy some high temp solder and put a blower on the motor to cool it and see if that helps.

Motor Modifications for more RPM

It is well-known that a certain contributor to this forum modofies EVT hub motors to provide 50 mph/80kph speeds. This involves increasing the free-spinning RPM's from about 750 RPM to about 1100-1200 RPM. He dees not seem to be willing to offer any technical information on this modification.

Can someone with some background in electric motor design provide a general idea how this is being accomplished? Does this involve new windings, commutation timing, or a combination of these?

Thanks in advance for the help.

OT: thinking of selling motors

This summer when i move back to the states this summer i had the idea of investing in some unite motors for resale. Mainly because theyre cheap enough for me to afford in wholesale quantitys. The question ism does anybody use them and if so what are the most popular sizes.
I dont have enough money to invest in many different motors, being that i have to buy a hundred of any given size. in fact at first i might only be able to buy one size. So naturally i want to get the one that most people want to get. Hopefully later on ill be able to invest in some crystalyte motors (my dream is to get a stock of perms and agni motors) , looking at how much they sell for im not even going to try and get in contact with them now, i know i cant afford a hundred of em. Im also thinking of investing in some soneil battery chargers. At this point i sent an email to soneil and unite motors, that was two days ago, im still waiting for a response.
