U.S. House shifts $16 bln toward renewable energy
By Chris BaltimoreSat Aug 4, 9:29 PM ET
The U.S. House of Representatives on Saturday passed a Democratic rewrite of U.S. energy policy that strips $16 billion in tax incentives away from Big Oil and puts it toward renewable energy sources like wind and solar power.
The 786-page bill, passed in a rare Saturday vote, was a top priority for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and is an amalgam of bills assembled by about a dozen of the chamber's committees in recent months.

Last year and this year I did some research on keeping cool w/o spending lots of energy on air conditioning. Okay, so I'm cheating a little because the SF Bay Area generally stays cool enough to not need air conditioning, but last summer had a couple unbearably hot weeks, and this summer looks like it might have more of the same.
Beating the heat without causing global warming points to a bunch of blog entries I've made on this idea.

Hi ya'll
Just a funny on my two alternative energy explorations.
About 25 years ago I decided I was going to build a solar hot water heater. I rented a small house, lived by myself, thought it would be a neat project to build.
I can't remember where I got plans, probably Mechanics Illustrated or some other source. Now remember my Dad's a hydraulic engineer. I needed a pump, he lost a pump, I needed a timer, he lost a timer, I needed some plumping parts, an electric valve, I made do with what Dad had.

Visited my Grandfathers farm last June, I had'nt been there in years. He passed away in the late 60's.
The farm is still in our family.
Was very surprised that the windmill was still there.

The Solar Estimator is meant only to give you an idea of price, savings and system size. The results are based upon many assumptions and the limited data you will enter. An actual site assessment by a qualified Solar Pro will be needed to determine the actual costs and benefits of installing a solar system. Please read the results screen carefully, including the extensive list of Notes and Assumptions.

Just a short note to show you all my new batteries. Just got these last Friday.
These batteries are Trojan T105's. Each of the 16 batteries are 6-volt 225AHs I use them to power my house but with 48-volts and 450AH a bike could go a long way. the only problem is the weight, 1440 LBs. :jawdrop:
