Al Gore, UN Panel Share Nobel for Peace
OSLO, Norway (AP) - Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change jointly won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for fighting it.
At first it didn't occur to me that they were talking about the peace prize and how strange that was. Why would someone win the peace prize for spreading the word on global warming? In the end it makes perfect sense. Wars are about resources and climate change is going to have a profound effect on the way these resources are distributed. By getting out ahead of climate change Gore and the U.N. are attempting to promote peace. I say hats off to both them and the Nobel committee. (Maybe that should be "helmets off".)
