UK Championship Round 2: Anglesey Post - Race Report

After an action packed morning practice, the teams and riders were itching to get out on the track again and go wheel to wheel with each other now that the Anglesey weather had calmed down. The tension in the paddock was mounting and the noticeable rivalry between the Team Agni riders was evident, both with a point to prove after the close duel for second at Snetterton. The race just couldn't happen soon enough.

Eventually, the teams got their final call, jumped on their machines and queued up in the holding area while the circuit was cleared, the press could take photos and the scrutineers could take one last check before sending them on their way. The riders were visibly impatient, keen to get things underway and clearly concerned about tyre temperatures. The gate was opened and the riders peeled round to take to the grid where they were held again for the cameras to get their final build up footage and shots before they set off on their warm up lap. After the warm up lap, the bikes rolled into position for the final time, all the while trying to conserve as much battery power as they could for the 14 lap race. The chief marshal dropped the red flag and pointed to the lights, immediately the riders readied themselves and looked up, in silence...

As the lights went out, Pete Ward got a phenomenal start from fourth place and led the pack into the first corner. Jim Lovell's lightweight Tork India machine didn't quite get the start he had hoped for, dropping in behind the two Team Agni bikes with Rob Moon leading teammate Jenny Tinmouth off the start line.

Rob Moon quickly took advantage of the Agni machine's performance and passed Pete Ward after the first couple of corners. Jenny soon followed suit and set after her teammate leaving Pete to fight it out with Jim.

It didn't take long to see that Jenny had the legs on Rob in the race and soon got past him and settled down into her own pace, gapping her teammate lap after lap and set an impressive fastest lap time of 1:20.922 winning her the Green Insurance Award.

The Tork India and Electric Hussars bikes seemed fairly evenly matched down the straights now that the Mavizen TTX02 has had some upgrades since Snetterton and they had an exciting dice for a couple of laps. Soon though, the superior braking and handling of the Mavizen became evident and Pete took the Electric Hussars team into a comfortable third place.

Jenny's impressive performance this weekend has really taken it to Rob and with the British Army's Electric Hussars team joining the front trio, Donington Park should be a really exciting one. All of the teams have some more time to make some improvements, so the pack should be even closer and with the championship points standings as they are, the places for the Grand Final in Albacete are sure to be hard fought in the remaining two rounds of the TTXGP UK Championship.

The TTXGP team would like to thank the Anglesey Circuit staff, the Wirral 100 Motor Club and marshals for making the event such a great one. Although the weather on Saturday was far from perfect, it did mean that the single onsite turbine was in full operation and in the last 3 weeks alone, it generated enough electricity to charge all of the bikes right through from Friday to Sunday.
