What's the best battery?

Battery University

What's the best battery?

Battery novices often brag about miracle batteries that offer very high energy densities, deliver 1000 charge/discharge cycles and are paper-thin. These attributes are indeed achievable but not on one and the same battery pack.

New Dewalt 33-volt Batteries

Well this time I bought 4 of the Dewalt 33-volt battery packs. I want to put them together as a single battery pack and I was hoping some of you can help.

1. Do I need to put a diode between the battery packs so they wont try to charge each other?

2. If so should I use Schottky Diodes?

3. If that answer for 2. is yes then where is a good source for these diodes.

Wiring Questions ...

I need to find a good two wire connector (both male & female) for charging my batteries.
I'll have two #8 or #6 wires comming from my batteries and I want to mount one of the connectors on the bike, the other will be on a pigtail from the charger (#8 wire).

A123 dewalt; need bms

Well, after receiving 4 dewalt batteries, I connected them up together at 36 volts, then tried to connect them in 2 pairs in parallel, then the 2 pairs in series to to get 72 volts. I got a nice spark out of that and it took me a while to figure out what I had done wrong. I should have checked the schematics before connecting them, could have saved myself a lot of aggravation. I'm hoping that I can get replacement battery management systems from some of the members that take them out and don't use them. I need three at present, to replace the 3 that I fried.

slots cut in battery tab???

So I picked up some saft surplus nicad 1/2D cells today and im wonderin if this was a good idea. Lookin at the + side of these cells, they have two notches cut into opposite sides and that doesn't seem to be the norm. Is the battery suppose to have these notches cut into it like that?
