Official announcements about V is for Voltage Forums

This was a good experiment in community restructuring. Perhaps if/when the VV.com site becomes operational again we can move back to it. But once we do this experience has no doubt taught us a real lesson that we should pay attention to.
One that I think everybody is clear on - the administration, especially bug/security patching, cannot be left unmonitored.

Hey Guys,
First, let me explain the silence to date. I just found out about this minutes ago when I went to the site. I am in the shop working and have intentionally been staying offline so as to be more productive in the shop. My email boxes are slammed as always.
My digd.com email is working, but I have a HUGE backlog there and so my response time on that box is very slow.

It seems to be coming alone very good, congratulations on a wonderful job.
I will be slowly backing out of my involvement with visforvoltage, It's just too much. I need to get back to a regular life.
Everything I see being posted seems to indicate you all have decided to go with the .org
Important notice:
The entire Voltage site was hacked by a malicious intruder who now contols its course.

Hi there,
I've just read Ken original statement again. See below
"Posted: Apr 7 2004, 12:45 AM
My name is Ken Trough, and I am a consultant and technical writer from Bellingham, Washington and the Voltage Forum architect and main administrator. I've been involved with EVs for a few years now, focused on electric scooters, electric bicycles, electric cycles, and other Personal Electric Vehicles (PEVs).

This forum, even if it's secure, and no matter where we move it, will again become overrun by spammers such as new v forum members "comprar(buy) viagra" and "croolintentionsmovie.org".(intentionally misspelled).
We can't both hide the site and be effective ev advocates and an info clearinghouse.
As spamming will become an issue for this forum too, we have to be ready to put some kind of control on new memberships without presenting undue obstacles likely to prevent new people from joining and feeling welcome here.

This morning I was thinking to clarify my intention for the group.
I am very interested in using "online community" as a means for helping the world become a better place. I believe we all have our own idea of making the world a better place, for me it's about giving people a way to come together and talk about ideas. A "forum" is a way to make an "online community", and all that means is we're getting together, we're doing activities together, we share a common purpose or goal, and we get to know one another while we're doing it.

Since the new V is need of another shot of green, how about some money making ideas in case advertising doesn't fully foot the bill?
1) Trademark "V is for Voltage", from the new site sell t-shirts, hats and such emblazed with the name, and cool designs of some kind.
2) Use donations to raise initial capital necessary to purchase said cool products.

The V is for Voltage forums are having some problems right now. This site is a proposed replacement. The purpose would be to support the Electric Vehicle community with a discussion hub and information sharing resource.
The site is built using the Drupal software which I have been using for over 2 years on my own web sites. Drupal is a very comprehensive system that provides a ton of useful capabilities, and is supported by a strong and avid user community.
The site, as currently configured, supports discussion forums and blogging. A whole huge range of other features can be added if the community desires. I believe an important feature will be the "website directory" capabilities I've implemented on my site.
