EFUN based scooters such as are sold by RMartinBikes

help buying

I can pick up a used EVT R30 2009 Model. Owner wants to sell because new job is out of range. Ran for abou 18 months for a little under 750 km /450 Mi.
Several questions, is there is there a group U1 battery (I think) with more than 35 amps that would be a drop in replement. I suspect I need to change the batteries soon.
What is real world range and speed. Bike and I am in Florida so cold is not issue, heat may be. I have a 25 mi @ 30 mph or so range.
Any issues with chargint this out side, if I can get permission to charge at work.

2600 Mile Update: Batts starting to suffer?

Hi All - Well, I have made about 75 34-mile round trips to town. I have been charging in town, with the batteries at about 50%, and again at home. It usually takes 1.3 to 1.4 kw to recharge after the in-trip. (On a meter.) No meter at home, but I would guess 1.6 to 1.7 after the uphill run. Therefore, these batts have about 150 charge cycles on them. In the last two trips, I am fine downhill into town. Coming home uphill, however, the last two miles send the onboard meter down to the red and my speed is limited to about 30 mph.

EVD Forks are Mush - Advice?

People!

My Martin EVD 60AH SLA has 1300 miles on it. And Im, eh...its ok, its cheap. But big problem, the forks are mush by now. Does anyone know if these are hydraulic, can they be rebuilt like an MC fork? R. martin service is like, "duh?" They dont know if there is oil, how much, how to drain etc. New forks are 278 for a set, and they were not so great to begin with. We have some bad roads here and potholes construction etc. so its not all the EVD's fault. But I have better luck even with cheap motorcycles.

EVD vs. Deer : A Draw

EVDDeer1.jpg

EVDDeer2.jpg

Last Thursday about 9:15 pm I was coming home. Doing about 35 mph. The first thing I saw was the deer's head entering my headlight beam from the left about 1 foot in front of me. The next thing was a tremendous crunch a little below and behind my butt.

State Farm FUBAR on EVD: Who Covers?

I just cashed my refund check from State Farm after their underwriting could not swallow coverage on my EVD.

Who else has one and have you gotten coverage? Thanks.

60v to 72v upgrade on a VRLA EVD

I have a 2008 EVD with Lead-Acid batteries. I asked the support guys at R-Martin if the scooter could be upgraded to 72v by just adding another battery, and the answer I got was "Sure - the controller is rated for 80v", though they did say they had never tried this themselves, they had heard of at least one customer who had. So, I added another battery of the same size and type (though it is rated for 40Ah instead of 50Ah), bought a 72v Soneil charger, and charged it up. Now the motor does not come on at all.

Upgrade EVD Controller

I have posted this under mods, but I am placing it here where there is more action:

I want to assure everyone that I have searched this topic for two hours and on Google with no clear result. So, here I go:

Has anyone replaced the Martin EVD controller with a Kelly or other better programmable controller? If anyone has tips, diagrams or just thoughts, I'd appreciate it. There is no point in putting in 3k worth of batts if the stock controller is limiting the acceleration to kiddy car level.

EVD 3 kw motor lube leak?

Randal35.JPG

I had some oily splatter on my rim yesterday. It came from the joint of the motor cover plate and the motor case.

Anyone seen this?

I tightened the allen head screws holding the cover plate and cleaned it up. No repeat in 50 miles.

I can't believe it I bought one

Well, after driving every electric scooter manufacturer bughouse crazy with my research questions, I had to go with the Martin EVD @ 2,399 shipped. There was no way around it, all the others are either almost bankrupt, don't return calls, or have no track record so to speak. The EVD, whatever R. Martin's long term plans are, has thousands of units out in the field, many reviews, many spare parts, and was just too good a deal to be ignored. I will set about getting LifePO and BMS installed ASAP - Andy, you are on call.

RMartin EVD VRLA

I started working on converting my EVD to Lithium last fall and had to stop for the winter. I had taken the batteries out and cannot remember how some of the wiring. I didn't bother writing it down since I knew there was a schematic layout in the manual, but now I have questions. There is a green and red pair of wires that provide power to the dash and lights on the bike. Does this connect to one battery's terminals(12V) or all of them(60v)?

Thanks,

Whome
