Hi all:
I'm happy to say that Electric Motorsport has located a pallet of brand new, in the box Eteks. We expect delivery in early January. So if you've been holding off on a conversion, wondering what motor you were going to use - here's your answer! The Etek is a great motor, can run up to 72 volts with no problem, and delivers terrific performance. You can jump right to the web page at:

Wish we were giving them away, but they're still offering a lot of value at $575.
Happy Holidays!

First thought is, "BACK" in this case doesn't appear to mean that they're back in production. Just that someone found some stashed in a warehouse somewhere.
Second thought is that I've seen a number of people look at the price for similar motors .. like the Perm or Lynch or whatnot .. and say that those are overpriced because of the old E-TEK pricing which was around $400 and sometimes less. To my eye the E-TEK was probably underpriced in the past. Clearly Brigs & Stratton wasn't able to continue production at the old price whereas Perm and the others are keeping production going at their higher prices.

Yes to both points. They're not back in production, but at least there are 100+ available. I also agree that they were underpriced - according to the designer, there are over 1000 parts in that motor; I don't know how they managed to sell them for so little. Annecdotally, I heard one reason they stopped was that the EU wouldn't clear the design, and they would have had to build another model for that market.
I do have hopes for the brushless model - if only we can find a reasonable controller that will put out more than 200 amps.
