Re: Failed rear/brake lamp

TL;DR version - replace Q1, a 2n7002 Mosfet that will have a hole burnt through the middle of it.

Its a SMD component, how good are you with a soldering iron (you should be able to get a TV repair place to do it for a $20 or so if you order the part from Farnell or mouser.

There is a blob on Q1 one which I assume is the burn mark!!

Re: Failed rear/brake lamp

Yeah that's it. Mine burnt a bubble in it as well, when scratched off it was just charred.

5 minute job with a soldering iron to fix.

Makes it hard to identify the component value though :)

I was looking for equivalents that had a lower on resistance and higher current handling capability, but never got around to it. Lower on resistance is easy, and would really reduce the dissipation in the device.

OK, so got the strip of 10 2n7002 mofsets and mobile phone shop soldered in a new one! Refitted everything and now have a rear lamp but no brake lamp. The constant rear lamp does seem bright!! any suggestions?
