A month or so a tear-down of the Chevy Volt was performed, disassembling it down to the nuts and bolts. I was able to listen in on a presentation by the team discussing what they found. Namely, over 100 microprocessors in different parts of the control systems. That's a heck of a lot of CPU's, and apparently a higher percentage than is typical in "normal" gasoline powered cars. The majority of these CPU's are in the BMS and other control systems for the electric part of the system.
I've written two pieces since yesterday on this new controversy which popped up yesterday. It's something for us to think about as EV owners with other kinds of EV's, not all of which have battery management systems. The issue is that on the Roadster, there are systems that stay on even when the car is off, and these systems can drain the battery far enough to kill the battery pack.
Tesla Motors, for their part, released this statement:
We traded in our last internal combustion car for a Nissan Leaf last week. We got off to a rocky start when during the first charging cycle something went very wrong. The information on the CAN bus was garbage so the car wouldn't run or charge or provide meaningful diagnostics. After trying everything they could think of and making slow progress with Nissan corporate the dealer replaced our Leaf with a new one. This was after only three days of trying to diagnose the first car. Kudos to Boulder Nissan!
We don't have many miles on it yet, but here are my first impressions:
In case any of y'all own a Chevy Volt, you're going to be receiving a registered letter from GM detailing a not-quite-recall that is going to begin soon to install safety modifications.
As briefly reported, BYD pure electric car e6 available in China in present, will implement the newly developed “I” system. This allows many vehicle functions to be performed remotely via smart phone and using cloud-data for driving assistance.
Do these features seem stunning compared to other brands? Why they still recruit killer features for this car with much money on facebook page(/bydcompany)?
When could e6 be available in New Orleans? Anybody who can offer some info? TKS
