Update on my EV Karmann Ghia following the last update some time ago: Some thoughts on redesigning the Karmann Ghia

The current status is: a) motor has been swapped, b) lead acid boat anchor batteries removed, c) 45x 100ah thundersky cells sitting in my garage, d) two controllers to choose between, e) old motor sitting on garage floor and it's thinking about becoming the power plant in a motorcycle, but one project at a time please

1st I would like to say hello as I have not posted to this forum for over a year now.

I saw that there is a go kart forum, but from what I saw, none of them were street legal, so I think this is a more appropriate place for this thread. I live in Fort Worth, TX about 5 miles each way from where I work. The fastest speed limit on the roads I take is 40 mph. I would love to buy or make an electric vehicle for my commute. The new electric scooters/motorcycles looked pretty good, but I saw a post saying it overheated when it was under 80 deg F outside.

EVI-INC is a truck customizer shop that specializes in electric trucks. They've set up a project with UPS to make electric UPS delivery vans.

Several EV journalists have gotten to test drive the LEAF this week, including yours truly.

Today, I got to test drive a production test version of the LEAF. Oh my, it's even better than the test mule I test drove last fall. This isn't the final production version but it's awfully dang close considering the cars will be arriving in the U.S. in December.

Summary - Really really good. Last fall I thought they have a winner on their hands, and I'm even more convinced now.

Seems that Honda may be feeling pressure from EV's being introduced by other car companies.

I sort of like the add-on design of Enginer INC Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Prius Battery pack via using a 120 volt to 48 volt converter to charge the LiFePO4 pack of 50 volt +/- then taking the low voltage and running into main traction pack. From what I read on Inverter it converts it from 48 volt DC to 250 Volt DC. The Prius pack is 28 Modules of 7.2 volts equaling 201.6 volt DC nominal. The 168 cell pack @ 1.2 volts equals 201.6 volt to verify numbers. The add on kit is sold through Enginer, Inc in Troy MI.
