Hi Knoxie, I'm posting

Hi Knoxie,

I'm posting mainly as a test to see if things are working for me.

p.s. I've changed my name from Browntimdc. A little more creative.

Movie

Hello

Yes for sure, I have been out in the garage its freezing!! the things I do i dunno, the KMX rear brake was a disc and the disc has had to go to get the USPD rear tranny in, so I have now got to try and mount a BMX canti on the rear, I need good stopping power on this thing esp at 72V. Soon as I have got that sorted I can bolt the controller and the motor to it and we can play. I can then swing the same batteries in to the rucksack and go and play on the BMX at 72V.

I really dont know why I didnt think of doing all this in the summer? doh! will do a movie though firstly of the BMX as once its all tested it will go back to being a normal BMX and prob live in my nephews house with only dreams of what it was like to travel at 30mph!! ha ha

Then its the KMX turn, if it runs as well as I think I am going to use the KMX as a test bed for the Lipos and Team Hybrids BMC in a 26 Inch wheel, I quite fancy bolting some lights to it and using it in the winter as well, will see what Mark thinks.

Off to Ebay to get a cheap BMX canti.

Cheers

Cant wait for the geared hub at 72v vidio Knoxie

I cant wait for the video, as its what I will be buying soon.
Waiting for Mark at Team Hybrid to send me a geared hub motor when they come in as the X5 isen't powerfull enough to get me up the hills in Huddersfield. I was using a Currie setup with a BMC 750w motor and a 40Amp controller but the spokes keep breaking, I am now trying to find a hub with 36 hole 135 mm that have 1.375 x 24 tpi left hand thread on the left hand side and a 1.375 x 24 tpi right hand thread on the right hand side. Scott at EV Deals cant get hold of any now, so to keep me on the road I am going for the geared motor hub.

SO that geared motor that

SO that geared motor that Mark is selling is more powerful or has more torque than the X5 ?? Iinteresting !! Plus it is lighter, only weighs in at 8.8 pounds versus the X5's 23 pounds.

Hey Knoxie, don't worry

Hey Knoxie, don't worry about the rear brake, it's only their for stunting, they don't normally fit rear brakes on most tadpoles as they can cause them to flip.
The front brakes provide 99% of the stopping power as the weight under brakes transfers to the front under heavy braking to the extent that you can lift the rear wheel with the front brakes.
Also the trike will out brake a bike by a massive amount with just front brakes.

Geared hub motor

Hi JDELUNA, Mark from Team Hybrid seems to think so. Usually a geared motor like the Currie with planatry gears has more torque at lower speed than a plain hub motor so I am hoping its going to be the dogs bo***cks. I am waiting for Knoxies 72v report and video to come out then we will all see.

Hi Tesco, Yeah I am waiting

Hi Tesco,

Yeah I am waiting also for Knoxie's report on the 72 volts, even though I will probably be only running it on 48 volts max. I was going to order some from the USA site, but talking to the guy there, he told me he sent all of his stock of rear geared hubs to the UK to Mark, and that he may not have them in stock till the end of this year. God Bless.

I'm really curious too, and

I'm really curious too, and hope knoxie can find the time to also post acceleration times. If it's as good as the x5 or better, I may replace my x5 as I'm in the market for more torque. I imagine this motor's lighter weight would offset some of the extra torque's added stress on the dropouts.

Mine is a rear x5, but the dropouts are 7005 aluminum. I understand aluminum loses significant strength over 10-20 years and must be re-tempered. In this regard, I don't know if 7000 series aluminum is any different than the standard 6061.

I wonder: has anybody managed to snap a rear aluminum dropout yet, or otherwise unintentionally dislodge a rear hubmotor?

72V This Weekend!

Hi

its late I'm tired so will keep it short, thanks for the info on the brakes, I think you are right! ha ha I have been busy, I got the KMX motor all sorted out and set-up the KMX tonight. What a laugh!! ha ha its very fast and nimble he he a lot of fun!! he he, I ran a modified Kollmorgen one of batch! he he with one of Marks Lipo packs. Performed great was doing about 23mph with good acceleration, that's good on 36V.

The twin front discs are great and do stop it very quickly so the poster on here was right about that, I have never ridden a bike like that! ha ha, I put it to some use I took about 30lbs of bottles to the bottle bank for recycling! ha ha I just sat them on my lap in a big rucksack and powered down there!! ha ha, I kept getting flashed by card drivers though? I had lights on and all, I guess they just think I shouldn't be on the road, it is however a road legal bike, I know the motor may not be but they never saw that?

Anyway, I know have 2 x lipo packs primed and ready for the BMX 72V test! yippee!! the torque arm is strong and good, the bike is ready to go, I am all set, its just the weather!! as Steve Head pointed out its shit!! however Sunday is looking sunny and dry so that will be the day. I am going to do the BMX and the KMX together, I will use the GPS for acceleration curves and top speed data and do lots of filming.

Mark now has the Lipo Packs and chargers! so if you want to get one put an order in as he is getting a lot of calls about them and has sold almost half already, The BMC motors are on the High Seas! and will be with TH before Xmas hopefully!!

By then you can make your own mind up on them, People need to know its a very different beast to the X5, its a lot lighter for sure and has great low down torque, Its a very good compromise, whether it beats the X5 at 72V we shall see, at 48V it was impressive though so im hoping 72V will be silly silly! it certainly will in the KMX.

Lots to do so much fun to have!! fingers crossed for Sunday guys, I will keep the movies short but informative and pack in as much info as you will need to make up your own mind about them motors.

Happy Thanksgiving to the US posters!

Cheers

Knoxie

Thank you and goodnight...snore!!
