Should not be used in recessed lighting, track lighting and dimmer switches.

Important to note that ALL florescent lighting contains mercury. This includes the long tube and circular type lights. Florescent bulbs must be disposed of with other hazardous household waste such as dead batteries and paint thinner. It can be a challenge to find local facilities that deal with these items. The first step is to spread this information. I was using CF bulbs for five or six years before I ever saw a notice on a package indicating that they contained mercury. These lights are good, but must be handled and disposed of properly. This is especially important to keep in mind as politicians are now proposing laws to ban incandescent bulbs. These new laws must include provisions for proper CF disposal. Spread this information so that your friends can make informed choices.

Another thing to consider is that LED lights may soon make CF's obsolete anyway. They are at least 10-times more efficient than CF's and are made from simple, non-toxic silicon compound. All they need is a little more work on getting the light a more natural color.

Actually, LEDs are less effecient than CFLs right now. They are working on that though. What you may be thinking of is the fact that the maximum theoretical effeciency for LED is higher than for CFL, but this is not really acheiveable in a commercial product. I do see LEDs replacing CFLs in the long term, but the required advances are years off.
