Vectrix Finally Launched

Here is another video I ran across showing inside the plant, and the assembly area.
http://www.treemo.com/users/groovygreen/channel/item/17165/

I also ran across this: The US firm Vectrix appear to have made a prototype electric version of the Piaggio MP3....as seen at the Milan show.
Says it's due for production in 2008.

Vectrix Finally Released 11.15.2006

Vectrix is finally ready to release their Electric Maxi-Scooter. After
ten years in the making, the scooter is poised to be unveiled at the
64th International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan this November. The
website's main page prominently reads: Cool people ride electric; and as presumptuous as it may sound, it just might be true. The world's first high performance electric scooter is comparable to a 400cc gas-powered maxiscooter, topping out at 62mph in just under 6 seconds.
The Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack takes about two hours to charge and is designed for 1,700 cycles - each charge will get you about 68 miles before needing to power up again. On top of the money saved on gas, only 250 parts in the whole machine (compared to 2,500 in gas powered scooters) keeps production costs and maintenance to a minimum.

The Vectix will initially be available in most major cities in Europe
and America, with a worldwide distribution network on the way.

Can anyone translate this article?

Lawrence Rhodes provided this translation
Babel fish translation.Eicma 2006: An electric MP3 at Vectrix! The American
firm Vectrix presented at the Living room of Milan, a version 3 wheels of
its electric scooter already marketed in Italy and on some points in France.
Vectrix is 100% electric and is placed on the level of performances a 250cm3
in acceleration with 0-80 km/h into 6,8 dryness and a maximum speed of 100
km/h. Autonomy is given for 110 km with 40 km/h or 5 hours in the urban
traffic. The scooter is designed like a large machine with two places with a
trunk for a helmet. The batteries are in central position and the refill
with 80% is carried out in 2 hours. This scooter integrates a system of
refill in deceleration which also provides an electric function of braking
without having to touch with the brake and a reverse gear. The batteries are
in Nickel/Metal Hydrat without maintenance. Are the models for Europe
produced in Poland and the current price of the scooter is 6299? cash and a
4 years leasing to 150? per month including/understanding the insurance,
maintenance and the assistance with the guarantee 4 years. The 3 wheels is
for the moment a proto which will be produced for a 2008 just like hybrid
version with fuel cell in order to carry the autonomy of this scooter to
more than 250 km

No three-wheeler yet

They have acquired the rights from piaggio to make three-wheel models like the mp3, but it is still only a prototype. From what I have read, sales will begin in Italy in January (they keep postponing this date), then other cities in Europe later in 2007. They have mentioned London as next in line. They haven't said anything about US at all.

Re: Can anyone translate this article?

As I'm french I will try to do better than the babelfish :
The American firm Vectrix presented in the 2007 Milan's International bicycle exhibition (eicma 2007) a 3 wheels version of their electric scooter which is already marketed in Italy and in some places in France (It's false, there is still no Vectrix on the market here in France, and I presume there is no in Italy too).
Vectrix is 100% electric and is perfomances are about a 250cm3 ! And so on....

I stop now because it's only advertisment and I'm not going to loose my time (and yours) anouncing the return of the Christ.

NB : ---> maximum speed of 100 km/h. Autonomy is given for 110 km with 40 km/h !!! (so to my mind if your average speed is 80km/h the autonomy will decrease a LOT, may be 30 to 40 km).

The only thing i'll add is that it's true that you can pre-order a Vectrix (= buying one before they start production).

The "official" launching date is April 2007 (but Vectrix had always been annouced for "in two months") and the price will be 13451€ = 6299€ on command and 149€/month during 48 months !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I stop the game).

leio,
Thanks, It's hard to have faith in anything you read any more that's EV related.
Any idea where they are being sold?

Peace Out, ;)

Vectrix Electric Scooter

Cars & Transportation

Zowee, check out this hot little number. The Vectrix Electric Scooter Vectrix Electric Scooter has a top speed of 62mph, a range of up to 70 miles, and goes 0-60 in just under 8 seconds. The recharger plugs into a standard outlet and gets up to 80% charge in about two hours. There's no clutch, no gears, just a single regenerative throttle that slows the scooter smoothly when it's let off (while also using the braking energy to recharge the battery!). And according to their FAQ, they're planning a fuel cell/electric hybrid scooter with a much higher range. And of course, it goes without saying: no noise, no emissions. (Now if we could just find a helmet made of bamboo...)

What's the catch?

Re: Vectrix Finally Launched

This article: What's the catch? ... is a key thing to consider with the Vectrix.

They (Vectrix) have been in the process of building this vehicle for years... The tree hugger article says they weren't going to be on the market in 2006 and ... er.... it's 2007 and the site still says "Reserve It" rather than "Buy It".

So, um, that's the catch.

Re: Vectrix update

I have been in frequent e-mail contact to Jim Plagenhoef, the director of sales at Vectrix who stated to me that as of beginning of march sample bikes are scarce and "move around" a lot right now but in a few weeks he would send me info as to where and when I get to test ride what I consider to be the most promising "mystery machine" of all!

I will keep you posted
