WRAD is happy to present a 30-mile round trip bike day along the beach
from Santa Monica to Hermosa Beach round trip !!!!!!

http://wrad.org/biketrip_june2007.html

All day Saturday
June 16, 2007
10:00am to 4:00pm.

The bicycle path along 15 miles from Santa Monica to Hermosa Beach takes you through some of the most colorful beach towns anywhere. We will stop for lunch at the Hermosa Beach courtyard around noon. Food there is fabulous and affordable. You may shop, eat, rest, and entertain other friends at the courtyard. Everyone is welcome. This is going to be a fun day to meet new and old friends. Also, it is a very good exercise for your body and strengthen your muscle legs to have 30 miles round trip on the bicycle. You will have a good night sleep after you are exhausted from riding all day. This is a fun ride for everyone.

Congratulations to many of the bicycle riders for making all the way from Santa Monica
Pier to Hermosa Beach and back. We had 20 riders. The weather that day was swell for
a bike ride with the temperature around comfortable 70&degF (22.2&degC). We also
had one person that rode electric scooters with us. His name was Craig Uyeda. We left a
little later at 10:25am and returned between 5:00pm and 6:20pm. Guess what! Bruce
Gross, the WRAD President/CEO, was the last bike rider to arrive at Santa Monica pier.
Some of us decided to stop at Venice Beach to walk or to ride slowly since it is world
famous for beach activities like performers showing their talents on the beach. Overall, we had a blast.

Looks like fun !!!!

Hi Craig,

Looks like fun !!! I wish we had something like that here on the east coast. Our beaches here are too short and our board walk here in Virginia Beach is only 3.5 miles one way from 1st street to about 43rd street. If by chance they ever extend the board walk to the end of VB to the northend side it would probably make it about 10 miles one way. God Bless :)

Re: Looks like fun !!!!

Also years ago we had the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Run / Walk, Bicycle day. For one day they opened the southside of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel for walkers and runners to walk from the entrance to the first island, which was about 3.5 miles one way. They opened the north end of the bridge tunnel to the bikers to ride their bike to the first tunnel on the north end, which is about 8.5-9 miles one way. There is also a killer hill that riding a bike on it, most people had to walk their bikes up, I rode mine at the lowest granny gear I was probably only going about 2 mph, but I made it up there :). Then riding my bike down that hill , I was able to hit about 35mph. Riding in the car you take that hill for granted but it is also the highest point of the bridge tunnel as I believe ships have to be able to pass underneath it. They stopped doing this event about 2 years ago, after doing it for about 8 years, it was FREE and always fun, all they asked were can food donations for the food bank or monetary donations. I am hoping that they start up doing it again as lot of other people I have heard and talked to. Here are some pictures of it from some web site. Enjoy and God Bless :)

*** The author says in the article that the highest point is approx 85 feet, I believe they are mistaken as I have seen others quote 185 feet which seems more realistic if you have ever been on it. :)
