My Exkate uses four 12 volt, 7.5 amp lead acid batteries in parallel and in series for a total of 24 volt and 15 amps. That would be nice if your board is 36 volts. I have been on Metroboards website and know of someone who has modified one. Look on electricskateboardreview.com, you'll get some useful information on whats hot and whats not. Steven Metz who wrote the reviews is going to review my Rokit Science board when I get it.
I got the board today, It is 36v 600w, It looks like new, but it must have been dropped because the battery box is broke and the rc board looks like the wires were ripped out when the battery box was broke, So I have batteries charging, and tomorrow I will solder the board back on, and run jumpers from broke battery box to board, and keep my fingers crossed, and if it works, I will just need to make or buy a Quick release battery box, I will let you know, And thanks for the link I will check it out....
Hope everything works out with your board, can't wait to hear how it runs. You can buy a quick release battery box from Altered (Exkate)or David at E-Glide. From your picture it looks like the same box as my Exkate.
Well the good news is the batteries took a charge, so the batteries and the charger are good, The bad news is I soldered the rc receiver board back on and it didn't work, So I called EXKATE® / ALTERED and ordered a new battery box, rc receiver board, and cable, Not to bad $67.00 total with shipping, So if that gets me up and going, I will have about $220.00 in the board, not too bad for a 36v 600w board...
Once I get it going I will start to look for lithium power...
For now I will have to wait another week or so for parts, Good thing I didn't sell my old board, still have something to ride, A friend of mine wanted to buy it, but I think I will keep it, too much fun...

Yeah, I ordered a new set of batteries from the guys at Altered a while back, had them within a few days (good guys). I received an email from the guys at Rokit Science this morning, they will be getting their new lithium batteries later next week (they order them as they need them as to not let them just sit on a shelf and go bad). They said that they would express ship my board as soon as they get the batteries, hopefully within a week or so. I'll upload some pics and review asap. Let me know when you get your board going.
I have been working 7 days a week, for the last few weeks, and it looks like this week may be the same, but if I get parts by Friday, I may take this weekend off to work on board, Will let you know when I get it going.....
I was out blasting around on my Exkate today (weather sucked), it's amazing how many people stopped me to ask about the board. They think it's a toy and they want to order one for their kids. Thank god they can't afford to buy these for their kids, they would probably be outlawed. Wish I was on the new board, the Exkate seems kind of slow now (and heavy). You must be going crazy seeing your board sitting there and wondering what it's going to be like. Get that baby running, you're going to love it.
Hi. I have a new project planned and have most of the parts already. Razor E300 scooter components - motor, controller, batteries and rear wheel - combined with a mountain board type front-end. 3 wheels in total!
Initially I will prototype with original wired Razor throttle and brake but plan to convert to bluetooth and use a Wii controller to accelerate and brake.
With a Razor 300, you should get about 15mph, And the 300 has a clutched rear wheel, so you would have good coasting capabilities, And with a mountain board front that will be awesome, I use a three wheeled board with no problems, it will get on two when you lean it real hard, and will tip over, but I am used to it and it's kinda fun to get it on two wheels,, Please post some pics...... I have a 300 sitting in the garage and would like to make an all terrain board when I get my Rincon board done....
I got my parts today, But have my granddaughter for the next to days, And then I have to work on my daughter's house this week-end, so we will see, the battery box fits in the back, but the front holder's don't line up, so I will need to re-drill hols but the rc board is the exact same one, So I should be good there, Will keep everyone informed...

Both are using Multiple Battery Packs, 2 TO 4 the 22500 has a on-board 3500 watt Honda Generator and on-board battery charger, the 1500 has a battery charger you carry in a backpack, the MAJOR issue is "Flex" Acceleration which is solved by using Curtis Speed Controllers, the other I Vibration... PEOPLE! Mount All Electronics on "Motor Mounts".
WHY? Runaway operation occurs when physical damage is done to electronics due to Vibration...
Hint: The Larger the Wheel Diameter the less Vibration, think using the Bladz's Go Kart Wheels.
Range is 20 to 25 miles, but with the Honda Generator installed the stress of running out of Power is Zero.
AllWays install a "KILL SWITCH" (Boat kill switches work great)

My designs are about 15 years old, Due to Seattle Washington rain, they are designed to run in the rain and snow the 22500 has ICE TIRES (250 steel spikes per tire) Ice is not a problem. Cheers enough said.

Hey, best of luck to anyone making their own boards. Quality parts are around so it's possible. I wish i had the time to make one but i got lazy and just bought one from Neptune Electric Skateboards. Much easier than making my own... not as satisfying though

hi, i got lucky and got a Skatey 400 and a Skatey 800, (i believe they are sold under different brands worldwide)
anyway, pretty standard fare, brushed DC motors, 24V (2x 12V 7ah sealed lead acid) and 36V (3x 12V 10ah sealed lead acid) respectively, and there is more than enough power in the single motors to get around.
my problem is, they are rated with a 10km action radius, but in practice that boils down to a little under 4km even with new batteries, because of road conditions, starting and stopping in traffic, and my weight (i'm 1.87m and weigh 99kgs).
i really want to use them as a way to get around, instead of lugging them around for offroad recreational use, but they aren't really suited as a means of transportation right now because of the limited range.
my question is if anyone can point me towards a more weight/range efficient solution, that is preferably lighter than what i have now, and adds a little more range.
i don't know the exact advantages of LiFePO4 over SLA, or NiMh or lithium-ion batteries, but i am sure one of these is more suitable for my purposes than what i have right now.
i know that a different set of batteries will mean i will have to find a matching charger, but that is no issue, as long as it stays semi-affordable.
any hints or tips are more than welcome.
I used to convert the SLA bttery packs to LiFePO4 on my electric skateboards (www.greenskate.co.nz) for customers and the difference compared to SLA's was amazing !
Better range, and a consistent top speed until they went flat .... basically the discharge curve was flat , not like the SLA's which slowed down until they stopped :p
Once you take the SLA's out of the standard battery box you squeeze in as many LiFEpo4 cells as you can and a BMS to make sure the cells charge properly and don't over discharge (must have a BMS!!!!)
And the charger that comes with the cells (swap the plug over to match whatever is on your battery box/board) - the LiFePO4 chargers are usually rated at a higher output , i used to run 5Amp chargers for 36volt packs.
The decrease in weight is a huge benefit, the boards are more responsive to ride and you get much better acceleration.
I would recommend a 20Ah pack for your 36v board if you can afford it (10Ah is the absolute minimum), as the boards when loaded up will draw 30Amps easily which is a high drain
Hi...in my case it had typical plastic wheels which made it too uncomfortable for my 3 mile commute. There was also an interesting quirk. The hand-held throttle could both accelerate and decelerate the board. This was nice because stopping a 15lb skateboard is a non-trivial task. If the controller received no signal from the throttle it would automatically go into deceleration mode.

It reminds me of Werner Herzog's documentary movie "Cave of the Forgotten Dreams", where he showed a work by paleolithic artist who would start a cave wall painting of a woolly mammoth 14,000 years ago, then another artist entered the cave and put the finishing touches on the piece 3000 years later!
