Easy Handlebar Camera Mount (First video test crash)

List of materials

-A bit of 3/4' or larger garden hose or similar.

-1/4" x 1.5" carriage bolt with its domed head ground flat.

-Wormdrive clamp--this one came from The Home Depot from the clothes dryer ductwork area of the store

-Nylon wing nut

How I held the carriage bolt while grinding flat its head

Results: OK.
It's solid.
The pictures jitter of course on rough roads.
Need to make a steadycam sometime

OR bodymount
like Steve Head ingeniously does

OR helmet mount--

But I'd most like to have a bar mount
--if I can kill the worst of the pothole jitters.

On smooth road it's just fine
except for $&#^&$ wind noise!

Addendum: It's not wind noise, it's apparently
brush spark static broadcasting into the camera itself.

Cool mount. That's very much

Cool mount. That's very much like how I hung my halogen headlights. I have a Canon S2 IS with built-in optical image stabilizing. Works well for smoothing the hand shakies, but I don't know about potholes and those other street jitters.

Very Nice Video, Reid-o

The video plays great for me -- and to boot it's of good quality, shaking much less than my last attempt.
While watching, I looked for any excuse to "report offensive content". Alas, nothing was offensive! Or even annoying!
Good going.

Reid-o needs no speedo,
he rides swift ebikes
hunting ass-faults in cars he doesn't like
shooting them with his cam
like Greedo did Han
a bit astray
but that's ok
it's not a fancy panning cam.

Hmmm...that sucked. :-)

I've seen more than one

I've seen more than one threaded mount insert torn from a camera body with that kind of non-stationary setup. They're not designed for that sort of stress.

I've mounted my own in a similar fashion but on my helmet. It seems to get a lot less shock as compared to being mounted directly to the handlebars. I stay aware of the possible consequences if it lets go.
